We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawnika Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawnika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have never been one to stop setting more goals for myself after making major accomplishments in my life. I’ve always known that I wanted to do as much as I could to help people improve their health. So, after getting my first job as a family nurse practitioner, I began to think to myself, what more can I do? What else is out there? Then, I came across this term that I had never heard before. “Nursepreneur”. In all of my years as a nurse, I had never heard this word. So I began to follow nursepreneurs and I was inspired and felt empowered as not only a healthcare provider but as a woman. The women I saw were confident, speaking at conferences and holding educational forums discussing their business and teaching other women how to level up. These women were their own boss. So, I set another goal for myself. I wanted to start my own business but not just any business, but one that I could be truly invested in and passionate about. I took an IV hydration course in Atlanta and it was up from there. After the class, I could not stop thinking about starting my own business, even so much that I stayed up at night thinking about it. I reached out to women who had their own medical spas and were doing exactly what I felt so passionate to do and here I am today. A year later, I own a medical spa and I love it! I truly believe this is my purpose and I am proud to officially call myself a nursepreneur and a woman in business. By no means was this an easy process, but anything worth anything is not going to be easy. I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge and even hearing the word “no” which I have heard many times in my career only drives me to go harder. I’ve learned that for ten nos there will alway be one yes that will open doors for you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I offer IV hydration services and vitamin therapy at Sevyn IV Drip Bar and Medical Spa LLC. Where I am from, people are unaware of how beneficial IV hydration therapy is and how this can improve their overall health and wellness. IV hydration therapy offers 100% absorption of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. We offer a variety of IV infusions which are customized to fit our client’s needs. Whether you are in need of an energy boost, or are looking to boost your immunity, improve your athletic performance, or improve the overall appearance of your skin, we have it! Our vitamin injections are time convenient and are great for clients to receive in between their infusions. We offer lipotropic injections as well which are great for weight loss.

I am excited to see the health benefits of our services and I am most proud when my clients send me feedback on their results. Whether that is losing those extra pounds or seeing the natural glow and restored radiance to their skin.

Starting this business was not an easy process but I had other women in business who encouraged me and offered guidance when I was stuck or didn’t know exactly what to do next. I would tell anyone looking to start a business to seek out a mentor. You can’t google everything and starting your business off the right way will save you a lot of time and money. I have learned that even when you have everything in place to start your business this means nothing if you do not network and support others. You have to give to receive. You have to promote your business and market to clients. This is truly what will make your business thrive. Lastly, do not underestimate the power of word of mouth. When one client is satisfied with your services, they will tell others and before you know it, you have built your clientele and a successful business.

I want the world to know that at Sevyn IV Drip Bar and Medical Spa, we strive to offer quality services that are affordable for our clients. We want everyone who comes into our door to feel like they have started a new journey with their health and wellness and to know that we are on this journey with them. I started my career as a registered nurse in a hospital just trying to learn and get through each shift. I would have never imagined that I would have earned a Master’s in nursing, become a Family Nurse Practitioner and open a medspa. Not in my wildest dreams. I chose the name Sevyn because the number represents fullness in life, perfection, and feeling complete, which is how I want each and every one of my clients to feel.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always enjoy the city of Atlanta when I visit. I always feel that there is so much to do and see and so little time, so I often return. I love shopping, so I always check out Lenox mall. Next, I have to taste that good Jamaican cuisine at Tastee Spoon! If you have not tried this place, you do not know what you are missing. Next, more shopping at Perimeter mall. I enjoy the Atlanta nightlife and just walking throughout the city and enjoying the culture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Monica Swint! She is such an inspiration and she guided me through the process of opening my medspa. I would tell anyone interested in starting an IV hydration business to contact her immediately. She not only gives you the blueprint but she makes the process less difficult and encourages you along the way. I am so thankful that I met her and I truly appreciate everything she has done for me and my business.
