We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Weir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a mental health advocate. My passion for making a positive impact on society led me to create the clothing brand Good Vibez. Born and raised in South Jamaica, Queens, as a first-generation American, I faced a share of challenges dealing with depression and anxiety. However, these adversities only fueled my determination to make a difference in the lives of others. I tried implementing a Mental Health Day at my Alma Mater Delaware State U, but didn’t go in my favor. Sometimes you aren’t denied you are just redirected. The overall goal is to make Mental Health the norm in conversations because most don’t realize they heal through conversation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am incredibly proud of my Mental Health Brand, Good Vibez Only, because it has become a powerful platform through which I can make a positive impact on people’s lives. Through this brand, I have the opportunity to help individuals see their true potential and realize that they are not helpless in this world. It brings me immense satisfaction to witness the transformation in people’s lives as they embrace their inner strength and resilience.

My pride in Good Vibez Only stems from the fact that it has been built on a foundation of resiliency and positivity, cultivated through my own journey of navigating through chaotic and traumatic moments in life. Overcoming challenges that I never thought possible has prepared me for this creative and impactful venture. It wasn’t an easy process, but I always embraced the belief that life’s difficulties were opportunities for growth, and I prayed for wisdom and strength in the moments I needed them the most.

One of the most significant lessons I have learned is that growth and evolution take time. While building the brand, I encountered moments of frustration when things weren’t moving as swiftly as I hoped. However, I never lost faith, understanding that progress might be gradual, but it was indeed happening. Every step of the journey, no matter how small, contributed to the overall vision and mission of Good Vibez Only.

At the heart of my brand’s purpose lies the desire to increase Mental Health conversations and promote positivity not only within individual lives but also in the broader urban community. Mental health matters, and its significance should never be undermined or ignored. Good Vibez Only is here to stay because it serves as a strong advocate for those who may feel voiceless and marginalized.

Knowing that there are people out there who need to hear the messages and support my brand provides is what fuels my passion and dedication. It is deeply rewarding to be a part of positive change, and I am committed to making a difference in people’s lives by promoting mental health awareness and fostering conversations around it.

GVO is a beacon of hope and support for Mental Health Awareness through its sponsorship of the “House of Vibez” Mental Health Community. This initiative serves as a vital link, bridging the gap between Mental Health and the world, fostering a nurturing and empowering environment for individuals on their mental health journey.

Good Vibez Only is more than just a brand; it’s a movement, and it brings me immense pride to be at the helm of something that can bring about meaningful change in the world. Through the power of our collective voices and actions, we can create a more compassionate and empathetic world, one where mental health is prioritized, and positivity thrives. This is my purpose, my mission, and I am incredibly proud to be living it every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends come to visit me in Atlanta, I’m excited to show them the vibrant and diverse aspects of this incredible city. Atlanta is a place with a rich history, a thriving culture, and a strong sense of community. There are so many unique experiences to explore.

One of the first things on my list is to take them to some of the fantastic Black-owned restaurants that Atlanta has to offer.

Next, we’ll head to the BeltLine, a remarkable urban redevelopment project that has transformed abandoned railroads into a 22-mile loop of trails and parks. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll or a bike ride while taking in the city’s stunning skyline.

A visit to Atlanta wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park. It’s a powerful and moving experience to walk through the places that played a significant role in Dr. King’s life and the Civil Rights Movement.

Beyond the city limits, we’ll explore the mini-towns surrounding Atlanta, each with its unique cultural identity. From the historic charm of Decatur to the international vibe of Buford Highway, these areas demonstrate the diversity and inclusivity that Atlanta proudly embraces.
