We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Shawn Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Robinson, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for the business of ChiroSkate came out of necessity. I saw a gap that needed to be filled. Many athletes have “their person” to go to, but for many skateboarders, most did not have access to a healthcare professional with knowledge on the activity. From personal chiropractic help, I realized this would be the profession to take skateboarding to the next level. I also want people to know that if I can handle these type of extreme athletes and injuries, then I am more than capable of handling everyday micro traumas as well!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my personal experience and belief, not only with chiropractic, but how being a skateboarder has taught me to never give up and to keep pushing! I am most proud and excited with the change and mentality of health care that I have seen become present in my community. I believe in empowering an individual and giving them the tools they need to succeed in their own journey. I am where I’m at now business-wise due to perseverance and hard work. Every challenge has its own solution and in today’s world there is ample opportunities to be creative and work around those. I’d like the world to know that it is possible to combine two of your passions and carry them out in a manner you see fit. I’d like for people to know that chiropractic is a lifestyle choice that can prove to be very beneficial when you find the right person!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first start off by hitting as many skateparks around the city to show off how far the skate scene has come in the south. I would definitely take them through the belt line and to one of my favorite açaí bowl places, Playa Bowls ATL. Since the city has many healthy food options we would also be hitting some of those places up to re-fuel! As for the night life, we would venture onto Ponce and probably check out the rooftops at the market or Clermont Lounge to fully take in the city view! Atlanta has so much to offer for all genres of lifestyles!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is so many people that I attribute my success too. I’d like first thank my family for encouraging me to follow my dreams, no matter if they saw the bigger picture or not. I’d also like to thank Dr. Tracy Olson, DC for introducing me to the world of sports chiropractic and the impact that adjusting extremities can have and mentoring me through multiple seminars. Also, major shoutout to the skateboarding community of Atlanta. They’re the reason my dream life is a reality!
