We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Poe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a young black entrepreneur with a successful new media company focused on helping artists evolve, the thought process behind starting my own business was driven by a deep passion for creativity and a desire to empower artists within my community. I recognized the lack of representation and support for artists of color in the industry and saw an opportunity to create a platform that not only showcases their talents but also provides them with the resources and guidance needed to thrive and succeed. The decision to start this business was also influenced by my own experiences as an artist and the challenges I faced along the way. I wanted to build a company that not only celebrates diversity and inclusion but also fosters a sense of community and mentorship among artists. By combining my love for media with a mission to uplift and empower others, I was able to create a unique business model that not only resonates with my target audience but also makes a positive impact on the industry as a whole.
Overall, the thought process behind starting my own business as a young black entrepreneur was rooted in a desire to create a space where artists of all backgrounds can thrive, grow, and evolve. By staying true to my values and vision, I have been able to build a successful company that not only supports the artistic community but also paves the way for future generations of diverse creators to make their mark on the world.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As a young Black male entrepreneur with a new and upcoming music-based media company, there are several aspects that set me apart from others in the industry. What I am most proud of and excited about is the fusion of my passion for music and media with my entrepreneurial spirit. This unique combination allows me to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the table. Getting to where I am today in the business world has been a challenging journey. It was definitely not easy, but I overcame obstacles through perseverance, hard work, and seeking mentorship from successful individuals in the industry. The challenges I faced only fueled my determination to succeed and pushed me to think creatively in finding solutions.
Throughout this journey, I have learned valuable lessons that have shaped me as an entrepreneur. These include the importance of resilience, adaptability, and building a strong network of support. I want the world to know that my brand is driven by authenticity, creativity, and a commitment to amplifying diverse voices in the music industry. My story is a testament to the power of following your passion, taking risks, and never giving up on your dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I LOVE MY CITY , lets start there , in Cleveland, Ohio, you have a vibrant city to explore with your best friend. For a week-long trip, you could start by taking them to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where they can immerse themselves in the history of music. After that, head to the Cleveland Museum of Art to appreciate beautiful works from around the world. When it comes to dining, you could treat your friend to some delicious soul food at Angie’s Soul Cafe or Zanzibar Soul Fusion. For a taste of the local music scene, catch a live show at the Grog Shop or you may even be lucky enough to catch Famous Fridayz at THE VALT MUSIC COMPLEX . To unwind and relax, spend an afternoon at Edgewater Beach or Wade Oval, enjoying the scenery and maybe even a picnic.
For a unique experience, consider visiting Karamu House, one of the oldest African American theaters in the country, or taking a street art tour in neighborhoods like Ohio City or Tremont. Overall, Cleveland offers a rich tapestry of art, music, and culture that is sure to make for an unforgettable week with your best friend.
