We had the good fortune of connecting with Shauntel Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shauntel, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am the parent of a 16 soon to be 17 y/o… I think one of the most important things I’ve done for her and that has been the most impactful was to not only start my own business, but to keep pushing through. She included in the building of the brand. I’ve taught her everything I can and know. Probably more than she can retain at the moment. I believe that it’s creating a stronger bond then what we had before, creating memories and building her character. I’m teaching her the importance of having your own as well as working hard for it and to maintain/see it through. I hope to build this up to one day be something major for her and my future grandchildren.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I honestly don’t know where to begin! My work is hard! And it wasn’t until I ventured into this industry I realized competitive! Or maybe that’s just the city I’m in! The food industry is just tough! You’re under scrutiny at all times! The pressure to please everyone or meet standards. The trying times we are living in with rising food prices and fighting to sustain and not knowing if you’ll be able to remain open etc doesn’t help either. I think what sets us apart from others is our unique taste. Honestly the love, sweat and tears we put in each item that passes through our hands! It’s a fight to make it and I try to make sure each person who tastes anything I prepare feels that! It certainly hasn’t been easy and it’s still not. But they do say anything worth having won’t come easy, thank God I’m a fighter lol. I’ve only managed to get where I am today with hard work(a lot of it!) sleepless nights, God and the support from others!! I’m most excited to see what the future holds! You’ll face many challenges on your journey. You just have to stay prayed up and push through. I’ve learned to stay humble and mind the business that pays you. Keep your head down and never lose sight of your goals. Always show up as your most authentic self. People can tell and feel that. I just want the world to know that wherever this journey takes me…. I gave it my all! I was always me and tried to share the love in the food.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m certainly not the friend for this! I’m always working I don’t have much fun. And if so, it certainly wouldn’t be in PGH! I need someone to point me in the right direction!!! I’m typically the “place to eat” so I guess I’d be cooking! I don’t go out much! I frequent the movies and chill lounges whenever I do step out(it’s been awhile).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think anyone who supports me deserves credit or recognition. It takes a lot of courage to venture out on your own! If not for your supporters would any of us continue? I would also like to recognize @land_cakepops @scooptv @udigg.apparel @guerillapparel @limitlessvibesx @touchedbytee @nailsyouenvy @ill_styles @lashedbychelsea_pgh & @mimihashair @nljscrubaway_llc to name a few black owned businesses that are dope!! Sorry if I left anyone out!
