Meet Shauna Moon | Musical Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shauna Moon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shauna, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I have never been a quitter naturally. I’d prefer to persevere, but I think that’s because I grew up with a survival mentality. Nowadays, I believe that if something is affecting your health, it’s not worth it. I have left jobs because the environment was toxic and affected my mental health. My self-worth is too high to stay in a situation that makes me feel less than. When it comes to music, however, and things that you love, I don’t believe that there’s such a thing as giving up. Sometimes creativity requires time to process, reflect, and stillness. During this time, we rediscover the things we loved about creating. We also learn that we are more than the art we create. We are people, a person with an identity beyond our output. Pauses are normal and we will return when we’re ready and we keep going. Getting discouraged is normal and so wants more support or a sense of belonging. They say patience is a virtue, but what really pushes us is the discipline to continue and be our own biggest fan. That is how to know whether to keep going or to give up.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of my growth as an artist. I still remember when I put together my first single compared to the collaborations I’m working on currently. I was lost and inexperienced. I had no clue about production or what good mixing even sounds like. Now, I’m really interested in the production of the track, researching what type of sound I want to go for, and working on my flow and lyricism to best deliver myself as my artist identity. The biggest challenge to overcome has always been funding and working with others. I can’t say I’ve overcome working with others because everyone has a different work and communication style and it’s a learning curve every single time. If anything, I’d like the world to know that I’m always learning more about being an artist, and I’m super grateful for all the people who genuinely support me. I only hope to make everyone and myself proud and to continue growing as an artist and a person.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a big foodie, so we are definitely eating! I meet most of my friends either in Philly or NYC, but if, we were sticking to my home state New Jersey, I’d suggest Spice 24 in Edison. We’d have to go to my favorite spa, Island Spa & Sauna as well. We’d have a slice of pizza since I only like pizza in NYC or NJ. We could hit up some bars at the shore in Asbury Park. They also have these nice mural walls for photo ops. If it’s not too cold, I’d suggest a day at Six Flags Great Adventure. If time allowed, we could check out downtown Princeton, visit the McCarter Theatre. I love plays and used to take acting lessons and classes when I was a kid up till college. I love museums too, but I think Philly and NYC have better museums. We could also go to the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford since they have indoor theme parks and attractions.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank Rec Philly for allowing me to use their spaces and providing opportunities for me to learn and network with other creatives. I recorded my mixtape, Pressure, at Rec Philly using Studio B. I also learned valuable lessons during their Creator Talks and Creator Day. I have also connected with others who I have collaborated with behind the scenes to make music, content, and visuals. Separately and foremost, I’d like to thank my mother for supporting me on my creative journey. She calls me her “Little Oprah” and has been a driving force in me, continuing to pursue all my passions without hesitation.
