We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaun Sinclair and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaun, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to be in control of my time, career, and financial destiny. I also wanted to help others who may not have had the opportunity to get their books published the traditional way. Everyone deserves to have their story told; I’m just a facilitator.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began as an author. I created my own genre of books called Gangsterotica, which is erotic crime fiction, and started my company Pen 2 Pen Publishing. I sold 30k books before being signed to a major publishing house, Kensington/ Dafina. From there, I rebranded my company as an author services company to help independent authors put out quality books. After making a mark in the publishing industry, I shifted my focus to film as a Director and Producer.
The journey wasn’t easy at all. Some challenges I faced was learning to balance work and home life. Through it all, there must important lesson I learned was to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. No one can see the vision as you do so you have to possess an unyielding belief in you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, we would start with breakfast at First Watch. Next, we would visit the historic West End for some cultural fun. Then, we would lunch at Bar Taco in the Highland area and take in the sights. From there, we would hit Lennox or Phipps for some shopping. After that, my favorite restaurant in the city, Pappadeux!
Atlanta is so bustling and booming that its always something to do.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to all the powerful women that helped me along my journey. They say it’s a man’s world but it wouldn’t be nothing without a woman’s touch. Well, I benefited from the touch of a lot of powerful women, from my mother and sisters, who have always supported me, to my mentors Lorisa Bates, and Kathy Taylor, to other women who will remain nameless but have played just as important parts in my journey
