We had the good fortune of connecting with Shatea Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shatea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started doing makeup I just did it as a hobby at first. With that, the makeup selection wasn’t at all what it is today. We only had certain makeup to use that actually looked decent but I wanted quality and affordability for myself and my clients to give them looks without having to charge an excessive price. When I expanded my business and began my journey of being a mua as my full time job I envisioned a setting where my clients could come and feel comfortable and beautiful at the end of their session and purchase makeup for their own personal usage without breaking the bank.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My artistry is natural glam. I call it an ENHANCEMENT for my clients. I base my artistry on the products I use which are from my makeup line, Glam Sauvage Cosmetics. Quality makeup and longevity for any time of the day. My customer service and interpersonal skills definitely sets me apart from others. I’ve been in this industry for over 10 years. Being professional is a skill. I’ve built a relationship with many people throughout the years, networking and clients. I can say my name carries weight. To step out on my own and carry responsibility for myself was nerve wrecking! I was so scared. But I’m so proud to say I’ve been in business for myself for 3 years now. It has been a blessing to be busy. I used to work as a server before dedicating myself completely to the makeup industry so I know how to market and hustle. I definitely must give God credit but also myself for trusting the process. Having a good reputation for customer service definitely has aided me in my success. I’m not perfect and the journey has not been as easy as it looks. I’ve learned in this business you’ve got to take constructive criticism. listen to your clients, take in suggestions and feedback, learn to multitask, and most importantly know you cannot please everyone. All money isn’t good money. It’s ok to let people go that don’t fit your vision whether it’s a customer or employee. I want the world to know that you can either start your business one day or let this day be day 1. Things may seem scary or unclear but as long as you try each day, keep consistent whether you have clients or not for that work day or shift, and stop trying to be everyone else in the game. We are all unique. Find what works for you and your clients and charge your prices that make sense to you and it’ll all work out. As far as my story and my brand; Glam Sauvage Cosmetics is for the everyday individual that isn’t scared to take a walk on the wild side. Our beauty products will bring out the bold and the beauty for anyone that wears it. Its great to be EXTRA and feel good about looking good. Don’t let anyone tell you any different!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a small place with good vibes. I’m a big foodie. Atlanta itself is a multi cultural city with good southern eats. I love good local spots. To get a good low key vibe of the city night life I definitely recommend Apt 4B for dinner in Buckhead. The customer service is A1 from valet to the wait staff. Of course you would want to experience a taste of Atlanta, taking a stroll down peach tree and seeing the beautiful city grabbing a drink & a slice of pizza from Jacks pizza and wings in midtown is a straight vibe. And of course you must stop by Nouveau in college park on a Sunday to turn up and eat reallll good they have events on Thursdays in Jonesboro location & live dj on Sundays for brunch in college park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a couple of people. First my HERSband Paris. She is my voice of reason and my business manager. Also my mentor Dr. Alexicus Branch. She helped me really step into entrepreneurship with a strong mindset with her guidance.
