Meet Shassity Stevenson | Skye Salons Owner/Luxury Extentionist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shassity Stevenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shassity, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a young entrepreneur, I knew that in order to succeed I HAD to be committed to the hustle. I knew that the number of clients I serviced directly correlated with the kind of life I could provide for myself. There was no steady paycheck or hourly wage that guaranteed a certain amount every to weeks. Therefore, I lived by the mindset of not being outworked. While that hasn’t change, since the pandemic, I knew the need to re-strategize my work-life balance was imperative. I know focus on ways to work smarter, not harder by increasing my value, focusing on quality clients not quantity, elevating client services and experiences which all ultimately drives an increase in demand. Making these changes has allowed me to have more time away from the salon to focus on my personal needs such as my physical and mental health, finding new ways to express my creativity, and most importantly REST!
How I show up for ME, is more important than anything else. And that is the key to my low-stress lifestyle.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing for certain is that working in the beauty and service industry can be challenging yet fulfilling. For so many of us, we have allowed social media to redefined today’s beauty standards which is constantly changing. That directly plays a role in how women view their self worth or self esteem.
I’m constantly striving to maintain a high level of professionalism, delivering a great product, and providing a positive experience for every client I encounter. People may forget what you did, but will always remember how you made them feel
Once I took a step back and truly examined what my clients needed I knew it would call for me to reach past my creative talents. In most cases, its about more than just hair. I’ve served clients through marriage and divorce, births and deaths, wins and losses, etc and to know that they trust me with some of their most vulnerable and celebratory times is the real honor. Im thankful for each and every client and the many life lessons they’ve taught me just by sharing their real life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I definitely consider myself to connoisseur of all things food, fun, and fabulous so compiling this kind of itinerary would be a breeze. So a few things at the top of the list would include a full spa day well because after travel, who doesn’t deserve a nice massage or facial to decompress and relax.
When it comes to food a few of my favorite casual places are Ten58 Sports Bar, Mariah’s Tacos, and Bite Your Tongue in City Kitch for some authentic New Orleans cuisine. When it comes to dinner vibes my 1st stop hands down would be Ever Andalo. The food and service=unmatched! My friends and I are tough critics, so I will never steer you wrong when it comes to food.
Personally, I love to create my own fun which could include a scavenger hunt around CLT, day drinking games, a round of mini golf at The Puttery, or a good old fashioned get-together at home with food, shots, and games poolside.
Charlotte’s social scene is always changing so I’m always keeping an eye out for new and upcoming options.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Since relocating to Charlotte, NC 11 years ago I have met some many amazing people that have supported me both personally and professionally. Whether they have referral me to others, shared business tips, or made meaningful connections, I am forever grateful. As an entrepreneur, I value the genuine connections I have been fortunate to make.
The person I would like to dedicate my shoutout to is my friend and business partner Kelly Davis. She is the queen of juggling many things, including but not limited to her family and other business ventures. But when it comes to Skye Salons, I can always count on her support no matter the ask. She is often my sounding board for business advice, problem solving, and networking opportunities.
I understand that not everyone has someone who is willing to be a true partner and Kelly has been that and so much more. I do not take for granted how active & intentional she has been about helping others WIN while expecting nothing in return. If I had to take this journey all over again, I would not want to do it without her. So to my Kelly, THANK YOU!
