We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharonda Irving and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharonda, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
There are so many amazing lanes in the fashion industry and we get to see beautiful work from stylists, bloggers and influencers. I am an Image Consultant. I offer style coaching and education about how to curate your unique personal style. Many people think what I do is the same as the other lanes. I can offer some of the aspects of those other areas, but I am primarily focused on teaching women style mindset and wardrobe strategies to use for their daily lives and  lifestyle rather than a particular moment or event.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My job as an Image Consultant and Style Coach is to help clients with the visual aspects of how they wish to communicate. My goal is to make sure that they maximize first impressions, through nonverbal communication to Amplify their presence in any room they are in. I coach professional women who are 40 and over to use Style Mindset and wardrobe curation strategies to navigate life’s transitions while rocking their unique personal style. I also work with organizations to provide professional development regarding workplace culture and professionalism. I’m able to work with clients in person as well as virtually using a CRM digital platform. My ability to work virtually really allows for a more flexible approach to the work and my clients who are often very busy women enjoy the option.

Built into my work with clients is the process of developing and strengthening a Style Mindset. Through my years of experience in the beauty industry and as a professional coach, I have learned that mindset precedes everything. I want my clients to learn how to make changes that are lasting and authentic to them, therefore it is important that they are the owners of the
change! That takes a level of self-awareness and mental preparation for challenges. I go after that with them.

As a woman, the process of owning and operating a business may take a winding path and that’s okay as long as you keep going. My business has been evolving over several years. Thanks to collaboration and support from others I was able to make the important changes that were necessary to grow. My most recent step has been to work with a business coach. As a professional coach I realized I needed coaching too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m located in Washington DC and there are tons of places to hang out. Although it’s touristy to go to the museums, they really are a must see. The opportunity to see world class art and history is unmatched, plus all the museums are free. The Southwest Waterfront is a fun place to hang out and eat. There are tons of restaurants and great photo ops. LaVie is a crowd favorite for the views. There are also some great local owned spots throughout the city- if you want good
soul food make sure to stop by Florida Avenue Grill or Henry’s Soul Cafe.

No trip to DC would be complete without making sure to eat a few crabs (Blue Crab is native to the area)- you can get a delivery from RL Crab company which is a black woman owned crab
delivery service.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am proud to say that I have been blessed to know amazing women who have I am proud to say that I have been blessed to know amazing women who have helped me along my entrepreneurial journey. They have assisted me in large and small ways and I’d love to shout them all out. This shout out goes to Nayoka Simone. She is the CEO and founder of her home design firm as well as Noir by NyRai her home scents company. She gets the shout out because she was willing to share her insight, as well as introduce me to other women who could
help me transition aspects of my business to a new level. Early on, she invited me to speak and participate in her events as way for us to both grow.

Although we know that successful business ownership requires having a good team and building alongside others not everyone follows that practice. I do and she did as well- which is why she gets today’s shout out. Thanks, Nayoka!
