We had the good fortune of connecting with Shareace Dillon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shareace, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I began my business it was for the full time continuation of a passion that I’ve had since childhood. I’ve only recently began focusing full time within the last year of 2021, however I’ve always created in one way or another within different mediums throughout my life. I knew that I wanted to expand my creativity by channeling my emotions, experiences and personal beliefs based off the chapters in my life and lessons learned. My artwork is a showcase of these things and the collection of my wisdom from self reflection and my spiritual journey. To share my art with the world is a personal love language with myself, of learning to come out of my shell in different ways and learning the many forms my voice can take and how that manifests in my work. I never know what I’m going to create next and so my artistic process surprises me at times. Allowing my spirit to flow naturally allows my business to stay transparent and have integrity. That’s always important to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After I left college in 2017, it took many years of working dead end jobs for me to realize that I wasn’t spending equal amounts of time working on my craft as I was working for others. Around 2018 I decided to experiment more with different mediums and became inspired by my progress by 2019. At the time, I only had an art Instagram page but I wasn’t taking myself seriously to make a career out of what I was doing as a hobby.

It took me some nudging from family members along with my own growing frustrations to realize that my passions were constantly being put to the side. In that same year, I decided to pursue my passion as a career and started a new Instagram account, “ebonymuse_”.

This was the beginning of showcasing my art on a consistent basis and sharing more of my ideas with the world. I knew this is what made me happy and that it was going to take me further than climbing the corporate ladder. By this time I had my hands in digital art, markers, sketching, and acrylic painting. My love for my experimentations and watching my growth as an artist was what inspired me to pursue my dream full time in August 2021. I left my last 9-5, used my savings to fuel my supplies, and trusted in God and my ancestors to provide the next steps for me. I have absolutely no regrets and I wouldn’t change a thing!

I want the world to know that I never intend on following trends with my art. I may notice what’s going on in pop culture but it’s not my agenda to “keep up” with anything but myself. It’s not in a cliche attempt of being different and standing out, but honoring my creative process first and creating from the heart. My brand Ebonymuse Art is based off my own experience as a black woman, a Goddess, a creatrix, and a sexual being becoming the inspiration behind my art. The muse. It comes from my admiration of the divine feminine and the endless ways that energy takes form within relationships, African spirituality, sensuality, and purely existing.

One of the major lessons I’ve learned as an artist is that it is not my job to impress anyone. Rushing to create takes the natural flow out of things and defeats the purpose of connection with self. Staying true to myself means honoring my own natural pace, the details, and making sure that the final masterpiece conveys everything my soul is feeling in that moment. That will always have a heavier impact than following a meme or a trend.

I am extremely proud of myself and the artist that I’ve become today. I know the possibilities are endless for me, and the visions that come to me are priceless and are to be treasured. I’m always grateful for this gift and being able to bring life to these visions in the way that I do. Nothing is more satisfying.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them shopping at the botanica for crystals, incense, tarot cards, just witchy stuff in general! Me and my sisters love soul food so that’s definitely a must, paint sip and puffs for the event, and spa treatments/self care is definitely a treat as well. I’m lowkey so anywhere that includes relaxing, enjoying good food, wine, weed, arts and crafts, and spiritually related is my thing!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout to the most High creator first and foremost for this gift I have within me. It is so beautiful to be able to create in the capacity that I do and I enjoy it with my entire being. My life is a blessing to experience and I am eternally grateful.

I want to shoutout to my coven family, Haus of Blanco, to my Muva, Dr. Blanco/Jzajaidah Huskey for creating this space for myself and my sisters to grow, helping me find myself and be reminded of my power! To my coven sisters, who are near and dear to my heart, thank you all for supporting me in everything I do. I love y’all more than you know. To my sisters in Bruja Baes and the HOB Academy, I thank you for your support and love every single one of you.

Shoutout to my mom and dad, and other family members that have been there encouraging me to create and supporting my business, it means so much to me. Y’all know who you are.

To my loves, Raheem and Ashley, you both render me speechless with your love and support. You not only encourage me but challenge me to show up as my best every day. I wish I had the words to describe the impact you both have had on my life so far. Thank you and I love y’all with all of me.

And last but certainly not least, I thank my ancestors that have come before me, that guide and protect me as I chase after my dreams. Thank you for walking alongside me in this lifetime.

To everyone mentioned I hope I continue to make y’all proud of me. It means everything to have y’all in my life.
