We had the good fortune of connecting with Shardé Jernigan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shardé, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was always something I wanted to pursue since I was in middle school. Now, as an adult with two kids and a husband, I wanted to be present in my kids life as well as in my marriage. I wanted to be able to attend the events that most 9-5 parents can’t attend. I wanted to be able to cook dinner for my family and it actually be ready at 5:30 or 6pm for us to eat instead of eating dinner at 8:30 or 9pm. I wanted a way to control majority of my TIME and the most efficient way to do that was through having my own business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is The MOM” Bag Store, where we sell already pre-packed Hospital Bags for expecting mothers. They are also great baby shower gifts as well. What sets my company apart from others is that there are none. They may offer a bag or they may offer the products, but not both together. Through this business I have been able to provide my customers with a since of relief just by offering them one less thing they have to stress about while pregnant. With me being a mother of 2 I definitely know how stressful a pregnancy can be, especially since my daughter was born a WHOLE month early. However, with this company my bag was already together on such short notice. I will tell anyone that the key to my success is that I never gave up. You have to continue to push whether you are having a great day, sick, upset frustrated or just overwhelmed. But you do have to make sure that mentally you are present. This journey was not easy and I didn’t expect it to be, but you just have to stay focused. Throughout this whole journey the most valuable lesson I have learned is that if you need help ask for it! Whether it’s reading books, researching or connecting with people that you can learn and grow from. My goal for myself and my brand is for people to understand that I am human just as they are and for them to view myself and my brand as something they can relate to and want to continue to do business with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I LOVE hanging with my besties and when we get together, honestly we wing it! We will get up early get dressed and ride downtown, if we’re hungry we will start throwing out food ideas. We all like trying out new places so each day will be an adventure. We love having a good time no matter who, what, when or where we are so from small pubs to hitting the clubs, you can bet we will be visiting them all.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and for most, I want to thank God for putting these ideas in my head and blessing me to be in a position to help others. I definitely have to thank my AMAZING husband, Paul, for being with me, by me and motivating me every step of the way. Lastly, my mother and grandmother for supporting me without even knowing they were and showing me that as long as you keep fighting, God will put you in that position you have always dreamed of.
