We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanti McNeil and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanti, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest, my intention was never to start my own business, but rather to create a space where I could support myself and possibly some friends and family members through the practice of self-care by forming an accountability circle that was committed to the discipline. I never imagined my love of self-care would become a business; it was more of a personal interest I pursued in my spare time than something I would devote an entire business to. The beauty of TimeOutWithTAE and Inward Endeavors LLC is that they have evolved alongside me and the TimeOutWithTAE community.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The path to becoming a community facilitator advocating self-care and subsequtinly venturing into entrepreneurship hasn’t been simple, but it has been very gratifying. I questioned my place in the Instagram/Influencer world early on in the development of TimeOutWithTae. I was irritated by the images displayed on Instagram, you know, “the picture-perfect ideal!” During my research of Instagram pages promoting self-care, I discovered that the majority of them used a very demure aesthetic, and I was certain that I would go in a different direction. My personality, as a live-out-loud type of person, had to be reflected in the TimeOutWithTae community.
Next, there was the issue of time. I thoroughly enjoy guiding people on a journey to self-awareness, and I believe the forum at TimeOutWithTae makes mental and physical well-being logical, and manageable for the TOWT community. My already hectic schedule was about to get even busier! I couldn’t imagine how I could do it. How was I ever supposed to fit in all the added responsibilities of owning, managing, and operating a group of this magnitude, and still be effective in my own journey through creating a self-care routine and achieving my personal goals of self-awareness? I’ve had to adjust and change, focus, and readjust, but things have leveled. Time continues to adjust for this meaningful endeavor as I explore healing and follow my passion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to thank God because, without his grace and mercy, I would not be where I am today. I’d be remiss not to acknowledge those who have directly impacted my success. My parents for instilling in me grit and poise. Supporting me throughout my life and allowing me to forge my own path all while holding the ladder steady as I climbed to new heights. I’d like to warmly thank my husband and children for their support and patience through my creative process because I know I can be a bit much at times. Friends and family that started #timeoutwithtae with me and helped it grow into a thriving community of love and support. I’d like to thank Instagram for providing such an engaging platform for learning, networking, and growing my business. Instagram and other social media platforms have given me the resources I needed to combine my creativity with business and entrepreneurship.
I want to give a shoutout to the newcomers in the timeoutwithtae community for your enthusiasm and encouragement. I appreciate you all.
In terms of books here are a few that I contributed to my growth and success: “New Thinking New Future”- by Samuel R. Chand, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” -by Richard Carlson, Ph.D., The 21 Indispensable Qualities of A Leader”-by John C. Maxwell, “The 5 love languages”- by Gary Chapman, and “Think & Grow Rich”- by Napoleon Hill. As a firm believer in holistic healing, I would also recommend the Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine by Andrew Chevallier. This is for anyone that is remotely interested in natural remedies and plant medicine. It is my firm belief that knowledge is power.
