We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanterria Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanterria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship has always been a goal of mine since I was a child. I’ve always thought about starting my own business, but I was nervous about the process. After helping a few friends and family members with their businesses I gained the confidence to start my own handmade jewelry collection. Owning your own business and having something to pass along to the next generation is one of the biggest factors of creating generational wealth.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Glam Retreat, LLC. I sell handmade beaded charm bracelets, mink eyelashes, charm bangles, aromatherapy necklaces and glamorous keychains. Starting a business is hard work. It takes lots of dedication and patience. There are days you may want to give up but stay positive and focused. Failure is a part of success. When your plans fail learn from the lesson and make the necessary changes needed. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from owing a business is networking and building healthy relationships with others. Networking and building strong relationships can gain you access to financial capital, business partners, investors, customers and greater opportunities to expand your brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in my life to be thankful for. The biggest thanks goes to my mother (Carla Williams). My mom is my biggest supporter. She has never doubted my ability to be successful. She constantly gives me positive affirmations and holds me accountable for my actions. She taught me what it meant to be independent and gave me tools to be successful in a world full of discrimination. Her gentle soul and words of encouragement shaped who I am today.
