We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanteria Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanteria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think about risk, I think of how important it is to fully trust in your own abilities. It may sound cliché to say, “Nothing great comes without a risk”; however, this is the best advice that you can give or receive. Being an entrepreneur is all about taking risks. The amount of determination and faith you must possess is significant in continuing this journey.

Prior to becoming a full-time entrepreneur, I ran my business part-time and always mentioned how I was ready to take the leap of being full time. When I finally made the decision to go full-time, I gave my previous employer a sixty-day notice. Within those sixty days, I was asked numerous times to remain with the company. I knew I could no longer put aside my feelings of being overworked, underpaid, and devalued as an employee by the physician I worked under.

Now when I look back over my decision, I am immensely proud of taking the risk to walk away from what no longer served me. I no longer feel the stress that I once had and look forward to going to work to do what I love each day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Licensed Esthetician who offers corrective facials, lash extensions, waxing, and brow services. I also train others in learning these skills. What sets me apart is my passion for helping others, whether that be through results driven skincare and various services, or simply motivating others. Another significant factor that separates me from others is my integrity, professionalism, and excellent customer service.

I got to where I am today by incorporating everything I’ve learned from previous occupations and life lessons. Learning that you must remain consistent has been the biggest and best lesson I’ve learned along the way. No matter if any hardships have arisen, remaining consistent has allowed me to continue and gain the trust of my clients.

I am most excited about the continued success of my brand. I want the world to know that when you support my business, you’re not just supporting a small business. You’re also supporting a woman who genuinely loves what she does and the people she can inspire through her talent and words of wisdom.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a native of Georgia (Decatur), there are so many amazing places to take someone visiting. Atlanta has so much culture, it would almost be hard to narrow down everything in one week; however, I would be sure it’s an unforgettable visit.

Depending on the vibe we’re going for, Atlantic Station, Ponce City Market, and Truist Park aka the Battery are always nice areas for tourists. There are endless things to do and quite a few choices for restaurants/bars.

Museums, festivals, and nature have always been three of my favorites aside of restaurants (I’m a foodie at heart). I often find museums when visiting other cities so it’s only right I show what Atlanta has to offer. Just to name a few, The World of Coca Cola, High Museum of Art, Fernbank, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, College Hall of Fame, and the Trap Museum are all great museums.

In reference to festivals and nature, there’s the Dogwood Festival, Sweet Auburn Festival, One Music Fest, Music Midtown, Caribbean Festival, Jazz Festival, Stone Mountain, Chattahoochee River, Bamboo Forest, and the Belt Line.

With Atlanta being known for having such a party atmosphere, there’s always places to drink, hang out and just enjoy. The nightlife options are endless and there’s always places to dance, lounge, and entertain. Let’s also not forget the popular brunch spots, Garden Parc, BQE, and Fin and Feathers just to name a few. Overall, I’m a true native (born and raised), and know how to have a good time no matter the occasion or location. My friend is sure to have the best, unforgettable visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my clients, family, friends, and boyfriend. My clients continuing to allow me to be their Esthetician means the world to me. I am always humbled and grateful that my knowledge and skills are trusted amongst others to patronize my business.

My family and friends who have been there along my journey of deciding to attend Esthetician School and making the transition to become an entrepreneur. Some allowed me to practice on them in the very beginning and have transitioned to regular clients. My boyfriend who encourages me to be the best at what I do and never lets me get down on myself. He has truly embodied the role of what it means to be a supportive partner.

My mother, who has an insanely great work ethic, always tells me, “You are the captain of your ship.” This phrase to me is interpreted as, you make the rules, set the tone, and steer the direction of your life. Although, there may be some turbulence along the way, you must keep steering until you reach your destination.
