We had the good fortune of connecting with Shante Mundy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shante, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would like my legacy to be the power to enhance individual’s lives in all aspects. Whether it’s psychological, emotional, physical ,or socially. I want to teach people how to heal and evaluate their lives on what brings them happiness and joy! I want people to remember me as making a difference! Teaching individuals how to use their obstacles as fighting forces to create perseverance while helping them identify their strengths. By using tactics such as those; I will be able to help each neighborhood at a time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Social Work professional. The ability to wake up and help others plays a profound effect on my well being. I have a history of working in school systems, homeless shelters, and partnering with many other organizations to resolve social issues. Now, identifying my true purpose wasn’t always easy. In the past as a young adolescent, I suffered from identity confusion. Finding my purpose was not important to me which led me to delinquent behaviors. I overcame these challenges by isolating myself and creating change within myself. I’ve learned breaking bad habits starts with your mindset and eventually your actions will follow. I would like people to know, no matter what negative life events you encounter; continue to move forward. Continue to create change! They key is to identify your God given strengths and use those strengths during difficult times. It will save you in the end.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Piedmont Park. I love nature. I would also take them to Rosie’s Restaurant, which is my favorite brunch spot! Visiting art museums are also my favorite as well

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a child, my mother and father has always put a fueling fuel in my body to be successful. My parents have always taught me that knowledge is power and I can conquer anything I put my mind to.
