We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
When I am feeling overwhelmed, behind or inadequate because “social media” says so I have to remind myself of how far I’ve come, the things I am doing and that POWELLŠIM‘ÔN is not my fulltime job yet, so, my mantra is…. “Market what you can manage”. Oh, and I will be putting that on a shirt, copyright in progress so don’t try to steal it!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I am not a full-time entrepreneur yet discerning when to give the most attention to what on a daily basis can be a challenge and defeating at times. I currently work in education and have been for over 11 years. So, when I decided to take the leap to start my business I knew it was going to be tough financially but it was now or never. I have yet to overcome the challenges but my mantra has become “market what you can manage”. It is so easy to get caught up in what someone else has done, doing or did, that noise can get pretty loud in your head…..
PowellŠimʿôn is a livable luxury lifestyle brand that embodies the essential and functional pieces for women working to get it all done by bringing functionality to the transitions life brings. PowellŠimʿôn produces items in small batches so, once an item is sold out it will never return in the same exact form. As a creative I am already on to the next which keeps my brand fresh and exclusive.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people that deserve some credit towards my entrepreneurial endeavor would have to be my daughter, Logan, she’s always at the forefront of my mind with every decision I make. I want her to know that anything is possible with sacrifice, consistency and accountability. Next, would be my mother, Tonie, who has been an entrepreneur on and off for years, the true meaning of making a way out of no way. Then, my best friend LauraAnn, my sounding board, thought partner and hype woman who constantly speaks over my business, buys every item and is always representing my brand…. We have been“dreaming” together for a long time! Lastly, my Husband Demetrius, he is the calm to my storm and craziness, he is so patient, whether I’m thinking of new ideas, up late in my think tank, conversing with manufacturers, creating content or needing him to take photos he lovingly does so.
