We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I felt like I could offer the clients a better product, better result and a more personal touch than the big company I was working for.
What should our readers know about your business?
hair replacement itself isn’t all that unique. It’s been around for a long time and honestly it seems like there’s a new shop popping up everyday. I think what sets us apart is several things actually. The easiest thing to point out is experience. We’ve been doing this now for over thirty years. I mean exactly this. It’s all we do.We’re not a salon that also does non surgical hair replacement. We only do non surgical hair replacement. While other salons are sending a stylist to go learn how to do this in a week, I’ve been perfecting this thing for three decades. I’m not still learning the techniques , I’m perfecting the art. It’s my passion. It’s my calling in life. I was very fortunate to be introduced to this very early and it’s been my total focus ever since. I can now pay so much more attention to the clients experience. That allows us to go to the next level and the next level. I started my business for several reasons. The most important was artistic freedom. I wanted to create art. I wanted to create undetectable, natural, authentic and stylish results. I wasn’t very excited about seeing how many clients I could see in a day. I wanted to see how ultra realistic results I could create. I wanted to not just give people some hair, I wanted to give them hair, amazing style and it be undetectable.
I wouldn’t say starting and building the business was easy or difficult because I honestly didn’t think of it that way. I just wanted to create the best results I could. The business came as I got better and better. There were some difficult times. We survived several recessions. We survived upheaval in the industry and pandemics. None of that was fun or easy but found our way through.
wow. lessons learned? That would take years. First , and it sounds corny but do what you love. It’s still work no matter what anyone says but at least it’s work you can be proud of and when you have done the hard part and you get to a point that offers you some freedom, you’ll be so much happier that your free to do what you love. Do the work, the money will come. If you’re chasing dollars you’re just gonna burn out. Do it because you love it and when the money comes you you’ll appreciate that and what it took to get there.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live centrally located between Alpharetta, Roswell and Crabapple so we would probably hit all three. Go for dinner at Little Ally, have some drinks at Fairway social and end up at Billy Allens. We would most likely Go down to the Battery and then a braves game.
We might spend some time in Inman Park with some friends and then most likely spend a good bit of time in our backyard. We love our home. We spend a lot of time on the back patio by the fire.
If we really wanted to go out big one night we might get dinner and drinks at Marcells and then a show at the Eastern and finish the night at Intermetzo.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hmmm. Well, I’m an orphan. I left “home” at 15. I lied about my age to get a job and saved enough money to pay for cosmetology school. I worked during the day and went to school at night. I started doing hair and was introduced to hair replacement via a bald boyfriend. I worked for all the major hair replacement company’s for a while and then started seeing clients in my house. I saved enough money to rent a chair in a salon and then to get my own salon. I did that alone for 17 years. I never took a loan or really had any support so I think my thank list would be my clients. Their the ones that give me the opportunity to fulfill my passion on a daily basis.
