We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Dill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Everyone takes risk. When you start that new job. When you start that business. When you navigated your life. Everything you do is a risk. A risk in forming not only what you put out to the works, but also what you gain back. For instance, I took a risk in developing a career in music. Music has always been my passion, but not until I got fully formed within it; did I start to take risk. The risk was putting something out there for others to enjoy, and not knowing what the probability of it could cause of loss or gain. I music people usually think there is nothing but gain, because they think about only the money aspect of it from what they see pictured out on social media. There is a completely different side to it. The loss comes with not knowing how others will picture the product of you being presented to the media. The product is you. It all plays a part in the process and business part of it all.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is defined by mental health that I experienced in the recent years. It began to develop as a child. That because we often don’t recognize that trauma starts at the adolescence. If developed me into my work today. It was a grooming to what I put out to the world. I am creative within that. I form music as well as books and other collectives. The trauma formed those ideas into works of art in escape. It was definitely not easy. Nothing you do at first is ever easy. You have to learn and gravitate towards a better form of what you put out. No matter what it is that you are putting out, it will never be easy at first. I’ve learned more lessons than none. One lesson learned was to always be patient and never rush. When you rush you’ll come out without a complete project. My brand is visionary. My brand is rage.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to a spot called MJQ. It is very live and very dope when it comes to the scenery and vision of how it got there. It is definitely a dancing unicorn.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
