We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaniece Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaniece, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I have learned in my career is that you have to take educated risk and have faith. Educated risk are when you decide to do something unpredicatble, but with a plan of execution and precaution. No matter how many times you fail and how stupid you may think you look to other people, if you have the courage to keep trying with faith, eventually things will begin to flourish one day at a time. I’ve also learned that if you put your best effort into everything you do, it will put you into rooms that you wouldn’t have access to otherwise.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have learned that the individual that is uniquely you sets you apart from others from jump. That partnered with my commitment to exceeding standard work, and the ability to persevere through some of the worst circumstances truly have made me who I am. I am most proud of the impact that I make through community service. I believe that the work I have done in the entertainment industry has served as a tool to perfect the skills needed for me to help others develop whats needed to change their way of thinking, and push them to go for their dreams. At UNCG during a News Anchor Class I discovered my love of speaking to audiences. I realized that my purpose was to use that platform to encourage people around the world to become their best selves. Although I had identified my purpose, there was no straight path to pursue it. Life wasn’t giving me lemons it was throwing them at me! I have struggled with burdens of financial lack, depression, and loneliness. I came into the entertainment industry knowing that it would be tough, but that did not eliminate the frustration of repeatedly being denied. Despite how hard you work; it can take years before you see a glimpse of your dreams manifesting. For this reason, it’s important to focus on perfecting your craft instead of the time frame it takes to get a “yes”. That’s a lesson that can take you from working for someone else to being your own boss, and thats just what I did. I’ve worked numerous jobs in the entertainment industry such as Stand-in, Table Reader, Audience Coordinator, but most people know me from my work as a Set Production Assistant. I’m also a freelance headshot editor. As you can see, sometimes you have to work around your dream and learn everything it takes to keep it before you can actually obtain it. That is how I’ve been able to work for almost every network in this industry. I’ve learned that although hard work is required, don’t consume yourself with work at the expense of your faith, physical or mental health, find balance and don’t lose sight of your calling. Also create your own content; when people won’t give you opportunities, you can create your own. Lastly, never give up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m such a homebody and I’m not originally from Atlanta so this is tough for me to answer, but ill take a jab at it lol. Friend Itinerary: Escape room Slutty Vegan Any Atlanta park The King Center Pappadeaux Any skating rink (Sunday old people music night) St James Live (live music) Mercedes Benz Stadium (sports games)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out first and foremost to the person who has made the most sacrifices in order that I may have the opportunity to pursue my dreams, which is my mother my biggest supporter. Credit is due to my father Jesus in heaven whom gave me the courage to believe, and walk in the valleys of darkness with my head held high. I would like to thank the teachers, friends, and family members who have contributed to this journey by support, guidance, and selfless service.
