We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Sampson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanice, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

My thought process behind starting my own business was to solve a problem that many women face today, which is a lack of confidence in their skin. I created Siobhan Skin to address this issue because I was once that person. As a real estate agent and working in an office setting I would always wear makeup daily to the point when I didn’t wear it I felt strange because I felt that I had “dull” skin without it. Periodically, I would get acne scars that would start to pile up, and just cover it with makeup.

As the real estate market took a hit and dramatically affected my business, it led me to a pivotal moment that caused me to think about my next move. I then began to think about how I could solve a problem and shift the paradigm from trading my time for money to having my money work for me. Drawing from my past experience working with a network marketing company focused on health and wellness products, I realized the value of offering a high-quality, consumable product that genuinely addresses a problem. This experience highlighted the importance of creating a solution that fosters loyal, lifelong customers.

What should our readers know about your business?

Siobhan Skin was created to combat aging, address hyperpigmentation, and give your skin a natural “I woke up like this” glow. I wanted to give women who are self-conscious about their skin their confidence back and not have to rely on makeup to feel beautiful.

Siobhan is actually my middle name, which means “God is gracious” and is pronounced “Shiv-awn.” Even though my first thought was to change the name to something easier to pronounce, I couldn’t compromise on the meaning and the fact that God always navigated me throughout my life’s journey.

Once I decided to create a skincare brand, I hit the ground running! Within a week, I was already vetting manufacturers and getting product samples shipped out to me. I then enrolled in esthetician school because I did not only want to sell skincare products. I wanted to learn about skin and add value to my customers’ experience. In less than a year of developing this idea, I launched SiobhanSkin.com. It was not easy by any means. I learned how to create product labels, I created my website, and when I finally decided to do a launch party, I chose a date two weeks away. I was ready! I think the beauty of it all was that I trusted God throughout the entire process, and it turned out to be such a beautiful event. This showed me once again that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.

One of the main challenges I faced initially was identifying my target audience. It wasn’t until I got my products into the hands of customers over the span of a few months I was able to make that determination. Since there are so many skincare brands out there, it is considered an “oversaturated” market I wanted to be very intentional with my marketing efforts.

The most beautiful thing about it is the amazing feedback I get from my customers, and that I have created a product that solves issues I have personally dealt with.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first stop would be Pasha in Buckhead, then Spaceman Rooftop at the Hyatt, the Waldorf Astoria Spa for a facial and massage, and do some shopping at Lenox Mall. On a chill day, visit Silver Comet Trail for a walk.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends and family have always been supportive of me and my vision.
