Meet Shanice Rooks | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Rooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always said I didn’t want to be an entrepreneur because I loved consistency. I loved knowing how much I was getting paid, when I was getting paid, what my benefits were, and everything you can think of for a 9-5. However, that changed after I had my first child. I soon felt the desire to tap into my creative side and the need to create something that she could be proud of. This re-sparked my love for photography. Growing up I always had a disposable camera and would ask my mom to get the film developed for me to make scrapbooks filled with lots of amazing memories. I absolutely loved how one photo could literally say so much without being explained. Thus, I created Posh Pixels Photography to capture memories for people who want something they can keep forever. Starting this business allowed me to follow my passion and to be available to my children and husband when they need me most. I’m thankful I made that leap because it has allowed me to meet some amazing people and explore the world of photography.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The only thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m me. As cliche as that sounds it’s my truth. I love what I do and it radiates through me for people to see. I provide quality photos and a good vibe when taking photos of my amazing clients. I’m just proud that I put my mind to doing photography and I have been doing it. I’m constantly perfecting my craft so I can continue to grow and provide quality service to my clients. Funny enough I actually got my LLC when the pandemic first started and it wasn’t until almost a year later that I launched because I doubted myself. However, I learned the only way to do it is to simply do it. It’s not as easy as just picking up a camera and charging people but creating a scene, adding to the client’s confidence, and learning about lighting and so much more. One takeaway I have to learn is knowing that everyone is not my ideal client and that’s okay and those who see my potential and grow with me is and I’m so grateful for my POSH clients. I’m more than a photographer but an artist who is building a brand that represents everything that I stand for in hopes that I can inspire the next generation to follow their dreams and commit to it .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, anywhere that has good food, great vibes, and excellent service is where I would take her because we are foodies. I would also take her to anything that is outside like Stone Mountain or a nice trail to catch up and enjoy nature.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely have to give my husband a shoutout because he always pushes me to be my absolute best. He bought me my first camera and other equipment because he saw how serious I was and wanted to invest in me. I also want to shoutout my best friend who over 20+ years reminded me of how talented I actually am and not letting me forget!
