We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Linton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanice, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had the mindset of a business owner.

In high school, I sold my artwork and did freelance photography and videography as a side hustle. In college, I started a Caribbean model agency while working to obtain my degree. Fast forward to today, my content marketing agency, Visual Vybz Studios is now 5 years old. So I’d probably say, my thought process behind starting my business is due to the satisfaction that comes with creating something that can impact others in a significant way.

Whether it is through the people I hire or the clients that I serve. I always enjoyed providing a service that offers value to someone else and seeing how they react to it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally, I create content marketing strategies and guide my clients on how to attract and retain more business. Additionally, I create a variety of different types of content, but my specialty is video production. I love storytelling and primarily use video to nurture and connect audiences with brands.

After 4 years in art school, I assumed my career would have led to something more ‘artistic’ in nature but instead, it lead to a more ‘strategically creative’ career path. I would say this transition is what I am most proud of. Being able to implement versatile artistic skills into a strategic marketing career is literally the dream job I never knew I wanted.

I believe all paths in life eventually lead you towards where you’re supposed to be and I’m grateful for every opportunity and rejection that led me here.

It definitely wasn’t easy.

I struggled to create a business in a country I had only lived in for 5 years. I didn’t have a lot of money to get started and had a ton of immigration setbacks. I was also very young and had to work extra hard to acquire clients without having a portfolio or really any credibility to help sell the business.

My challenges felt endless, but I used every setback as motivation.

Eventually, I started to gain traction and things started to pick up. Yes, challenges still came from all directions, but I celebrated every win and kept pushing nonetheless.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I LOVE food. So I’d probably bring my friends to some of my favorite restaurants like Thai Squared and The Select. I would also suggest a trip to the Atlanta Beltline, because why not? Then maybe somewhere up north to hike like the Blue Ridge mountains, to give them a contrasting experience of how beautiful the city and countryside is here. There’s literally so much to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has been extremely supportive of my career and life choices, no matter how risky. But I’d say most of my advice, support, love, and encouragement comes from my relationship with God. I pray a lot on good and bad days for his wisdom and guidance which is the reason I am where I am today.
