We had the good fortune of connecting with Shania Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shania, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued photography because it’s a gift God has given me, and I want to make sure I am always glorifying Him through it. Growing up, my mom was a photographer, and my brother is also in the field, so it was always part of my life. When I finally decided to try it myself , and I instantly fell in love with it. Every session, every Wedding I always get so excited to do because it’s just another chance to get creative.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love and am always up to doing something wild and creative, and truly I will lay in some dirt or climb a tree just to get the shot! I love having fun with my clients and simply laughing anything to make sure they are comfortable and just having the best time ever. I still am growing my business and it’s definitely not easy but I still get excited when a new inquiry comes in. I’ve also ran into some imposter syndrome along the way and just always comparing my work to others, but everyone style and creativity is different and that’s just something I had to learn. My own style is what makes me unique and the photographer I am today. I am a self taught photographer and am always learning but I wouldn’t have it any other way it’s such an achievement when I discover a new thing while editing and capturing moments. I would love everyone to know if you’re thinking and dreaming it just start it. I learned the term community over competition and it’s something I have stuck by. People are just trying to learn I will give the location I will help with questions because having a community of friends is better then just competing with everyone. And that’s how I meet one of my best friends Karlie simply because I desired that community

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Evening Activity: Chill at Skyline Park (on Ponce City Market’s rooftop) for games and city views.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would LOVE to shoutout my Mom. Who is also my biggest critic I know something looks good if she says it looks good, because she is not afraid to tell me the truth! Also her encouraging me and introducing me to the field in the first place. I Also want to broadly shoutout any client who has booked and trusted me to capture their special moments
