We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanetria Bady and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanetria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What is the one thing in life that money can’t buy and we can’t get back? Time! When I decided to start my business my main motivation was to gain back control over my time. With what the world has been through over the last year I am not at complaining over being traditionally employed. However, being told what family events and which child hood memories of my son’s I am allowed to attend does not seem like a feasible option for the rest of my life. There are entrepreneurs in the world who make money in their sleep, they have the option to attend all family events, go on vacation, see their child’s first steps because they made choices that would allow them to be financially free and time wealthy. From them I draw my inspiration. The other major factor that went into me starting my own business is my desire to create generational wealth for my family. I want it to start with me and I pray that they will learn for my path and improve upon it. Allowing each generation to be greater then the last. One major reality of this is since I have yet to invent some revolutionary product, the best way to achieve these goals is with multiple streams of income. After graduating with my Degree in Professional Communications – Public Relations I started doing Independent Public Relations Consulting. This includes social media, event coordination, electronic press kits, etc. for small businesses and local indie artist. The beauty of Public Relations is that it can be done anywhere. I have had clients locally and as far as Arizona. Every industry in every country around the worlds needs Public Relations to survive. Public relations is an essential management function that establishes and maintains the relationship between an organization and its public by which success or failure depends. My field is the lifeline of organizations.

What should our readers know about your business?
As an Independent Public Relations Consultant I work with individuals and small businesses alike. I enjoy the personal connection I am able to make with clients. I offer a wide range of services from social media assistance to event coordination. The personal attention is what I am most proud of and that is what sets me apart. My clients are not just names in my contact list, they are friends. I get to know them and they me. Being independent allows me to offer a more personal and hands on approach with my clients and their projects. They know that every task will be handled personally. I am most proud of the way I execute events for my clients. Event coordination is one of my favorite tasks. From booking the venue, to booking entertainment, and creating a VIP experience, I love it all (I don’t even mind the stress). The VIP experience is my event calling card, swag bags, food, masseuses, exclusive access, etc. I love getting the feedback from the VIP guests that I have outdone myself.

Consistency and word of mouth is how I go where I am. For every happy client they tell anyone who will listen about their experience with me and it has really helped me gain more business in certain circles. The indie artist community in Minnesota for example. After my work with 1 client I quickly grew to 3, 6, and at one point even 12 indie artist clients looking for some of my time.

No, it was not easy. The hardest challenge to overcome is the reality and as a new, smaller duck in the Public Relations pond I may not have the desired connections for every client to want to work with me. My skill set must match whatever goal they have for themselves or their brand/business at that time.

Along the way I have learned that people often lie to save face, and you can’t please everyone.

I want the world to know that Shanetria Bady executes her tasks as a Public Relation Consultant with the upmost integrity and genuine love for the industry. I love working with clients both near and far and my vision is to help you bring your vision to life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In no particular order I would make sure I took my bestie to the following places over the seven days:

Wilde Café & Spirits – phenomenal breakfast menu and the atmosphere is very homie with large pieces of furniture and low lighting. They even offer an outdoor seating option.

Travail Kitchen and Amusements – while we would need to purchase a ticket in advance as they sell out fast. This locally owned restaurant has become a dinning event as apposed to a dining experience. They offer a la cart but the real fun is the seven course meal option which differs daily and is chef’s choice (minus and allergic items to the guests) the kitchen is open so you can see the chefs as they work and one of the courses is serve by each chef as you walk with an empty plate through the kitchen each chef assembles the course 1 component at a time. The staff dances on tables and even serves a course via a long board to serve the 18 seater table in the center of the room.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatre – to experience fine dinning and live theater show.

Dicks Last Resort – Improv style restaurant/bar where most of the servers are aspiring actors and the theme is for customer to be insulted. They make fun of you as you walk through the door by writing some funny about you and making you wear it on a large paper hat during your stay. The more vulgur/rude the better add a few drinks and your looking at a good time.

Nickelodeon Universe in Mall of America a place to ride rides, play games and release your inner child.

House of Comedy in Mall of America for a hilarious comedy show.

The Gay 90’s for great dancing a good vibe and on Sunday nights a fun and lively drag show.

Last but not lease my house because that is where the most fun will take place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful to God who is the head of my life and has blessed me every step of the way with phenomenal people to guide me and lean a helping hand.

My mother is my biggest cheerleader and has been the core of my support system my whole life. If not for the strength I saw in her and the love she gave me and my brother I wouldn’t have had the courage to make it this far. Big thanks to Theresa Goliday the most amazing person in my life.

I also want to thank my college professor Rose McKinney – APR, Fellow PRSA Founder & CEO of Pineapple RM Inc. during my junior and senior year of college she was so inspiring, motivational and encouraging. She gave me the confident to feel capable to go out into a sea of PR giants and make a few small waves. One day I know I will make her proud and leave my mark on the PR community as she has.
