We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanese Shields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanese, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, I was always drawn to creative professions. Shows like “The Cosby Show” and “A Different World” captured my imagination, and I often found myself re-creating or re-writing scenes, immersed in the world of storytelling. From a young age, I sensed I was destined for a career in the creative field. However, I was not initially aware of the vast array of opportunities and the necessity of having multiple streams of income as an artist. My parents instilled in me the importance of being compensated for things that I enjoy doing, so I always kept that at the forefront of my mind.

After graduating from college, I initially ventured into Corporate America and later transitioned to a career in education. Despite these experiences, it wasn’t until I moved to Atlanta in 2019 that I fully embraced my creative passions as my primary source of income. I took the time to assess all the activities I enjoyed and devised ways to monetize each one. This led me to become a serial entrepreneur, constantly juggling multiple projects to sustain myself financially.

Today, my creative ventures are diverse and fulfilling. I have published over 1200 Amazon Journals, Books, and Coloring Books. In addition, I offer ghostwriting services, helping others bring their stories to life. My brand, Klazzy Kre8tions, and its production company, Klazzy Kre8tions Production Company, are also central to my creative endeavors. These projects not only allow me to express my creativity but also provide a steady income, proving that it is indeed possible to get paid for doing what you love. Speaking of love, I absolutely love dogs and I also have a pet care company where I walk an average of 50-60 miles per week.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Klazzy Kre8tions Production Company, established in 2020, is a dynamic division of the broader Klazzy Kre8tions enterprise, which has been nurturing creativity and innovation since March 2009. With over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, I felt it was the perfect moment to channel my education and expertise into creating a unique imprint on the industry. The mission of Klazzy Kre8tions Production Company is to produce high-quality film and television content with a focus on Empowerment, Education, Inspiration, and Entertainment.

Our projects are designed to bring much-needed awareness to the struggles and triumphs of individuals dealing with various autoimmune diseases, disabilities, infertility issues, childhood trauma, and mental health challenges. Through our films and television shows, we strive to empower those who feel marginalized, educate the uninformed, inspire those in need of hope, and entertain audiences in a meaningful way.

We are currently working on our Conversation Series. We just wrapped filming for our 5th episode last month. This innovative 10-episode series aims to spark healing dialogues within families through the medium of short films; focusing on issues that specifically affect African American households. The stories range from intergenerational conflicts and mental health struggles to societal pressures and the impacts of systemic racism. By portraying these real-life issues, the series seeks to foster understanding, empathy, and open discussions among viewers, encouraging them to reflect on their own familial relationships and experiences.

Embarking on this journey has been far from easy. I’ve endured a significant health scare along the way, which tested my resolve and commitment. The path of an artist demands a unique kind of vulnerability, as it requires opening yourself up to the world. Each piece of art I create, every film I write, forces me to delve into deep and dark places. This emotional excavation is often difficult, but it’s also where I find the most profound truths. Throughout this challenging process, I’ve learned the invaluable lesson of staying true to myself and always giving my best, no matter the circumstances.

When I chose to participate in Season 6 of “60 Days In,” I saw it as an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy. Five years have passed since then, and the impact of my work on the show is evident. I continue to receive numerous messages from people around the world, expressing their gratitude for bringing awareness to Celiac Disease, food allergies, and autoimmune diseases on an international platform. These messages reaffirm the importance of my mission and inspire me to keep advocating for these causes.

My journey of advocacy extends through my brand, Klazzy Kre8tions. Through this platform, I aim to heal and inspire change by sharing powerful stories. Each project is crafted with the intention of making a difference, and I invite others to support our work. Together, we can create a ripple effect of awareness and compassion that transcends boundaries, fostering a world where art serves as a catalyst for healing and transformation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me for a week some of the places that are must to visit would be: The Aquarium, Trap Music Museum, Ponce City Market, Atlantic Station, Beltline, Botanical Garden, MLK Jr. National Historic Site, High Museum of Art, and The U Bar or other similar lounge.

Food wise we would have to visit: Pappadeaux, Rays on the River, Bantam and Biddy, Slutty Vegan, Hell Yeah Gluten Free, True Food, Cultivate Food and Coffee, and Mary Mac’s Tea Room.

I have not done a lot of socializing since moving to Atlanta, but one thing that has been consistently fun is attending the music festivals. My three favorite festivals have been the One Music Festival, House in the Park, and the R&B soul festival.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Special Shoutout to Phylicia Rashad!

I would like to give a special shoutout to someone who is beautiful inside and out, talented, educated, and has been my role model since I was a child. Phylicia Rashad is a name that resonates with grace, intelligence, and immense talent. Sometimes, when we look up to someone famous, our perception changes once we meet them in person. However, that was not the case for me when I met Phylicia Rashad. While working at Disney World, I approached her, only to be initially stopped by her security team. Undeterred, I told her I was an actress working at Disney World and aspired to be just like her, including becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

To my pleasant surprise, Phylicia Rashad allowed me to walk and talk with her. Like my parents, she emphasized the importance of getting my education first and then pursuing my creative dreams. She cautioned me never to give up, a piece of advice that has stayed with me throughout the years. That brief yet impactful meeting took place in 2001, and it still holds a special place in my heart. Her kindness, wisdom, and encouragement profoundly influenced my journey.

Today, 23 years later, I am still pursuing my dreams, fueled by the guidance she provided. Special shout out to my Soror, Phylicia Rashad, for the invaluable advice and encouragement. Your words continue to inspire me every day. Thank you for being a beacon of hope and a stellar example of what it means to be both an outstanding artist and a remarkable human being.
