We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaneice Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaneice, why did you pursue a creative career?
I love this question because I didn’t choose an artistic career. I like to say it chose me. I always aspired to be an entrepreneur and started business ventures or simply shelved ideas. Giovonni’s Canvas was different. I have always had the skill of drawing and painting, but it wasn’t until my 10 year old son fell in love with my work and said you should turn this into a business! I said let’s go for it and after one post the rest is history. I am so overjoyed that now I can enjoy what I especially since I am accompanied by my son! I thank God for his maturity and vision at such a young age because his eye for talent will hopefully grow into a mother and son empire.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Giovonni’s Canvas creates custom art work that we like to call our 3D paintings. We call them 3D paintings because the pieces are created with actual material that pops off of the canvas alongside the acrylic paint. What sets us apart from others is that for our paint parties, we take pride in pre sketching each canvas by hand without using stencils which is not common in this day of advanced technology where things can be printed or duplicated by machines. We are currently most excited about tutoring art programs this summer! We are going to enjoy teaching the youth and helping them express themselves through art. Giovonni’s Canvas is still an up and coming mom and son business but with the support and recognition we have received it has made the hard work satisfying and well worth it! Starting a new business especially privately owned I imagine will never be easy. With having many entrepreneurs that do the same thing you do it is very important to remember you are unique in your own way and the clientele that is right for you and vice versa will be there! Do not worry about how many people do the same thing you do ! I seen a saying that I like to refer to about sales that said in a grocery store there are several types of breads and brands of bread to choose from ,an entire aisle full and they all sell! Giovonni’s Canvas is a paint business, but even though its business our goal is to create bonds amongst family and friends with our events and provide lasting memories through art.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have many favorite places in Georgia. No matter how far I go I have the best memories in Georgia. If we had a week long stay in Georgia we would definitely have to make a check list and visit all the beaches! Many people know about the Georgia Aquarium or Six Flags, but don’t know about the beautiful coastline! The beach would be at the top of my list but we would definitely have to take a stop though downtown ATL! Its a must! The hard rock cafe and the sugar factor would be at the top of the list for fun dinning! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shout out to Giovonni Sims. Giovonni Sims is not only my 10 year old son, but he is the founder and visionary of Giovonni’s Canvas. The vision was his I simply assist with his ideas. I can not thank him enough for his vision and allowing me to represent it.
