We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanee Andall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest I never even thought about starting my own business before. I had the knowledge to start one but it wasn’t something o my mind. It sort of just happened you know. I’m sure it was the same for everyone. During Covid there was hardly any jobs available for me and I knew I wanted to be productive. But when I did start my business, the first thing I did was my research into what platforms graphic designers used, how much they charged etc. I already had business knowledge so I wrote a business plan (not fully detailed) but just to get an idea and then I just started 😊

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of Le Luxe Designs which specialises in brand design but I also offer web and graphic design services. I have been running my business for over 3 years now and I must say I absolutely have enjoyed every part of my journey. Even the bumps in the road I had, I’m happy I went through that because without the bumps I wouldn’t be where I am today. I knew from when I started my business that I wanted to help small business be seen, attract the clients they want and ultimately grow as a business. I’d say what sets me apart from others in my industry is my honesty and how straight up I am. Some designers may sugarcoat things for the money but I will say my opinion to help them go towards the right path in their business. So if I feel like we could do something better with your brand I will tell you. I’d also say the fact that I’m quite collaborative with my clients and like to see them as my friends is also something that helps me stand out because from doing so I’m able to build relationships, trust and basically give them advice on their business. My business journey has been an absolute rollercoaster just like any other business I’m sure. I’d say for me one thing that I had to learn in my business journey is to make investments. Before I used to be scared to make certain decisions because I’m scared that I might not see the positive outcome that I would like to see but now I’m doing that I’ve been running this business for three years I’ve realised that each of the investments that I’ve made in my business and all of the things that I was scared to do was actually beneficial. For example I invested in Photoshop because I wanted to provide better quality services for my clients, invested in CRM systems so I can provide a better experience and I also invested in a MacBook so that I can improve my design experience. Also invested in many other things such as webinars, sales funnels, email marketing because if there’s one thing about me is I will do anything I can to improve my business. Overall my business journey definitely wasn’t easy there were times when I hardly had any clients and was wondering when I would get the next one in. I think the least amount of money ever made in a month was $30 and I was so sad about that but I never thought to give up because I knew that eventually I would get to where I wanted to go and I knew that God was going to be there by my side and on my business journey. Whoever is reading this I want you to know that if you’re scared to make that investment in your business do it! I say this because I’ve made so many achievements just because of the investments that I’ve made and I know that if you made the same investments you would also do well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from London and the one thing I LOVEE about London is the scenery, parks and the amount of restaurants there are. So one place I’d take my friend would definitely be the London eye but not just to ride it to sit at the park that’s behind it because its just so refreshing. I’d also take them Oxford street which is basically an outdoor shopping centre, it’s so huge and there are so many places to shop and since we would be there, it’s only right I take them to ANY of the parks in central London because they are all so huge. Lastly, I would take them to Vapianos, its not a fancy restaurant or anything but the pasta there is so nice and fresh, you’d love it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I actually would like to thank my teachers because without them I would’t have the knowledge I have today to even start my own business, grow my business, set up my business legally just everything to do with business and marketing. The teachers I had were very supportive of me as a person and believed I could achieve such amazing things and I wanted nothing more but to prove them right. So I worked hard in ALL my subjects and came out with the top grades. I’ve now been able to take this knowledge and apply it to my business and even help other businesses with the same. So shoutout to them!
