We had the good fortune of connecting with Shandrè Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shandrè, what role has risk played in your life or career?

For me, taking risk has made it real. My biggest risk was stepping out of my comfort zone and showing my creative side which turned in to me creating my own business. Taking a risk to start my own business lead to a domino effect of perseverance. MadexLove allows me to share my creative talents in whatever capacity I choose. I am also able to show customers how I relate crafts to life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
MadexLove Creative Design Company captures art through engaging details. Each handmade item is crafted through an experience passed on to the customer to create a new memory. What I believe sets me apart is my creative wordplay, and how I bring it to life through my fonts and crafts. The font that I use in most crafts is my handwriting. I could not find a font that captured my brand the way I liked, therefore I created one.
My Kindergarten teacher taught us through crafting, and I continued that hands-on method throughout my education. This lead to a career in Education.
Technology is in high use for education, which inspired my daughter-company, kid’s craft line; MadexKids. The goal of MadexKids is to provide children with media-balanced craftivties that will enhance their learning skills.
Starting my brand took me out of my safe zone. I knew I wanted more therefore I had to do more. While the process was very overwhelming I understood that change was uncomfortable and I learned to persevere through the growing pains.
Overall, the goal for my customers and those around me to see the bigger picture that we are all Made by Love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love being from Atlanta! If I were to have friends in town at the current moment I would take them to the Atlanta Fair for a fun environment in the heart of the City. Afterward, we could grab drinks or a bite at The James Room. If they preferred a more formal dinner I’d make reservations at Canoe. One of my favorite historic hidden gems is the Madame CJ Walker salon on Auburn Street. We could then walk down the street to enjoy more history of the Atlanta culture leading to the Auburn Ave Research Library.
For a live Saturday night, we’d start with drinks at the bar at a spot on Peter’s St and I can’t forget to end my night with wings from Magic.
On a Sunday, if it’s football season we’re headed to the Dome. If not, brunch at The Republic or Breakfast at Barney’s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My support system was definitely the nudge to take a leap of faith with MadexLove. My “GrandMargaret”, who encouraged my artistry that lead to crafting. My mother for seeing the gift and inspiring it by enrolling me in summer craft camps. My Dad, for always believing and making me feel like I was the very best. To my friends, thank you for trusting me to decorate for your most memorable life occasions, this kept me motivated to start MadexLove. The City of Atlanta, thank you for allowing me to grow up in a culture where Anything is Possible. To anyone who has liked a post, made a purchase, or shared with a friend, Thank You! With the support of all mentioned I am able to craft through the love that I am Made of, Fearfully and Wonderfully.
