We had the good fortune of connecting with Shandra Elam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shandra, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of creating MaXX Capacity Design Studio came from my business partner (Serrita Lindsey) and I ( Shandra Elam) having a collective vision. The vision to customize personal apparel to the consumer market which consisted of t- shirts, jackets, hats, a variety of dtf transfer designs, and promotional branding. MaXX Capacity wanted to bring your vision to life. The idea that two women ( Shandra Elam) from Augusta, Ga. and (Serrita Lindsey) from Anderson, Indiana could merge our talents together and not only display our love for customizing, but to help others seeking branding, design, and customizing needs as well. The idea of creating our own journey “The Press Queens”.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I currently have my associates degree in marketing management and currently pursuing my bachelor’s in business administration. I am also apart of a nonprofit organization called the Sisters Social Inc. where we unite women from every background and provide entrepreneurial education, community outreach and networking. I am also co owner of MaXX Capacity Design Studio along with my business partner Serrita Lindsey. MaXX Capacity Design Studio customizes apparel using a variety of vinyl techniques and dtf (directive transfer film) printing. MaXX Capacity specializes in allowing the consumer to not have what they like, but what they love. Having determination and faith are the biggest two factors that has given MaXX Capacity the motivation to create cutting edge designs. Will the journey be easy? I always use the philosophy “will anything easy to obtain be worth it”. The passion outweighs the challenge, so the challenges really are just learning experiences in building our brand and sharing our journey with others.. Learning to be transparent, confident, and proud in the learning process . Our goal is to make wearing your favorite article of clothing a part of you. Here at MaXX Capacity we are excited for you to share our journey through design, creativity, quality, and love. In addition to the business aspect, being a mother of 2, deciding to further my education, running a business, maintaining a full time job, and just dealing with everyday life has taught me that you can do “ anything you put your mind to”. How strong is your determination? That’s the key. If you apply this to whatever you want to achieve in life than you have found your main ingredient . What sets me apart from others? Knowing that God doesn’t put more on you than you can bare. I take that everywhere with me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Augusta “The home of James Brown” would definitely be the place I would take my bestfriends visiting from out of town. Downtown of Augusta offers so many cultural diverse experiences from the Market Place on the River, live bands, great food, entertainment, musicals, and the list goes on!! We would definitely visit the Market Place On The River for a Morning walk and because it is the warm time of the season, we would be able to shop and purchase fresh produce, homemade soaps, body butters, fresh flowers, a selection of food vendors that offer a wide range of food from various cultures. Three of my favorite places to eat and socialize in the downtown area would be Humanitree , Sole’, and Edgar’s Grill. What can say? Whether you are looking for press juices, clean eating , great drinks, cocktails, or fine dining 3 course meals.. Last but not least, if you are looking for a more intimate setting, maybe you don’t want to leave the house and want more of a private ambiance… check out “ The SinsKitchenSlayer” Chef Sincere Donaldson. Whether it’s breakfast and mimosas, lunch, fine course meals, this is the Chef to experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First giving honor to God!! Without God there would be no MaXX Capacity Design Studio. Shout out to Sister Social Inc, (Serrita Lindsey) my business partner, my sister, and friend. Shout to my friends Ayeisha Johnson and Lillie King for your constant love and encouragement. Last but not least shout out to my family, my core support.
