We had the good fortune of connecting with Shana Hannibal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shana, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision I’ve made for myself is to live for myself. I do not try to please others or live by their standards. I don’t need anyone’s permission to do anything. I live by my heart. If I have a passion for something, I do it. If I want to better myself, I do it. Don’t let the opinion of others limit your success or creativity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work in education. I’ve been an assistant principal and teacher. I absolutely love working with children. I’ve known I wanted to work in education since I was a teenager. I’ve learned so much along the way. The biggest lesson is patience. Things aren’t always what they appear. People need grace .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Charlotte, there are so many dope spots to visit. For rooftop vibes, I love Farenheit and RH. For play, dinner, and drinks you can go to Puttery and Piedmont social house. For cultural opportunities, visit the Gantt center and the Mint museum. Lastly, if you want to go outside, visit Freedom Park of Romare Bearden park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to acknowledge my husband. Through all of my crazy events, moments of enlightenment, or times where I need complete silence, he’s been there. He encourages my work and reads every single sentence.
