We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamek’o Barren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shamek’o, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has changed tremendously over the past two years. I have a full plate and balance is key to my mental and emotional health. I have two businesses and work full-time. I own a youth organization, women’s empowerment firm, and manage a store full time. Balance for me looks like setting boundaries, It`s saying no, it’s self-care, it’s scheduling off time. Work life balance for me is knowing that my personal well-being and my sanity is more important than anything I’m working on.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most excited about changing the lives of those that are in my community and beyond. My purpose is that anyone that I come in contact with will grow and become better than they were before. I got where I am today because of my belief, persistence, and mindset. Yes it takes work, but you have to pair that with consistency and mindset. Starting a business or running a business is not easy. And if anyone tells you different, they are probably lying. I often overcame these challenges by going back to the dream. I go back to the dream and examine why I started. I also do some self-examination on how I can realign, review, and reevaluate my current strategy. Some of the lessons I’ve learned is that hard work doesn’t necessarily mean success, but working consistently does. Everyone isn’t your customer and that’s perfectly okay. Find your tribe and go there!!! Another lesson is remember it’s business, never personal. What I would like for people to know about me , is that I’m a creative and empowering spirit who’s driven to plant Motivation, Inspiration, and Purpose.
