We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka Powers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shameka, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Two things, Strangers will make you rich and people are watching! I gained my very first big client via a share on social media. I remember being extremely nervous and worrying that my prices were unreasonable. I learned at that moment that people will pay for the services they want. The end! After the project was complete, that client sent five new customers my way. They all lived in different states and we never met in person!

People are always watching even if they don’t verbalize it and that equates to potential business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have ALWAYS been a fan of good stories. When I was young, I was in the library! I had my share of fun as a child but I spent so much time in the library. Once I started writing, I decided to pitch a story to a Publisher. I submitted my story and they were interested. I remember being so excited…until they offered a contract that would give them fifty percent of my profit. No way! I researched many publishers and I did not like what I saw so I decided to start my own publishing company! It was NOT easy but it was so fulfilling. Seeing my hard work come together made me feel so amazing! Challenges will always be a thing but it is important to KEEP GOING. Deal with obstacles and move forward. I have learned that everyone has a story and I will help them write it!. I have also learned to believe in myself no matter what. I want the world to know that there is so much more to come from KingMeekPublishings so stay tuned!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We will definitely enjoy several restaurants. I will take them to my favorite vegan spots. We would probably find a karaoke lounge, bowling alley, or skating rink.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have helped me become the woman that I am today. God first always. He has been my rock! I also thank my parents for letting me be me. I had to do things my way and they didn’t interfere and I am so appreciative. My siblings have been some amazing cheerleaders. My kids are my reason! My entire family is amazing and I am not just saying that. I am abundantly blessed when it comes to my family. I am so thankful for my friends Tamika and Tiffany and the decades of friendship we have.
