We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka Burrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shameka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my business, it was driven by a personal passion for helping people and companies get a better grasp of their finances. Having witnessed many struggle to understand and manage their financial affairs effectively, I felt compelled to act. My mission was to simplify the complex world of finance, making it accessible and understandable. By offering tailored advice and practical tools, I wanted to empower my clients, helping them to make informed decisions and build a stronger, more secure financial future. This endeavor wasn’t just a business; it was my way of making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I felt the call from God to serve both in ministry and the marketplace, it seemed like a daunting task. Balancing these two worlds required me to develop a unique set of skills and a level of confidence that didn’t come naturally. At first, it was overwhelming to think about leading spiritually while also navigating the complexities of the business world. I had to learn to trust not only my abilities but also my purpose. Each day brought its own set of challenges, and with it, the opportunity to gain experience more assured in my roles. Prayer became my cornerstone, helping me find the courage to step forward even when I felt out of my depth. Slowly, with each small success and every hurdle overcome, I built the confidence needed to thrive in both my callings. It was a deeply personal journey, one where I learned to lean on my faith and the knowledge that I was exactly where I was meant to be, doing exactly what I was meant to do.

In the marketplace, I serve as financial advocate, The Burrellz Enterprise that specializes in providing comprehensive tax and insurance services. We focus on offering personalized solutions that cater to both individual and business needs, ensuring that our clients are not only compliant with current tax laws but also well-protected against potential financial risks. Our team is made up of experienced professionals who are dedicated to demystifying the complexities of taxes and insurance. We believe in building strong, trusting relationships with our clients, guiding them through every step of their financial decisions. Whether it’s optimizing tax returns or crafting the perfect insurance coverage plan, our goal is to help you achieve financial security and peace of mind. We pride ourselves on our integrity, ability, and commitment to service excellence.

I founded a non-profit organization called Families Strengthening Families, with the mission to support underserved families and their youth. Our goal is to provide resources, education, and support to strengthen these communities, helping them to overcome challenges and thrive. In addition to my role with the non-profit, I serve as the pastor of Discipleship Christian Faith Center. Here, we focus on helping individuals walk out their calling in God, and we equip them to teach others about the loving and saving power of Jesus. Both roles are deeply fulfilling for me, as they allow me to live out my faith in practical, impactful ways, reaching out to those in need and guiding them towards a brighter, more hopeful future.

What sets me apart in both the marketplace and ministry is the personal conviction that my work is more than just a job—it’s a calling. In the business world, I don’t just aim for profits; I strive to lead with integrity and kindness, creating a supportive environment that uplifts everyone involved. In my ministry, I am committed to fostering a deep sense of community and spiritual growth, helping others find and fulfill their God-given purposes. My dual roles are interconnected, each enhancing the other. This blend of faith and professional ability allows me to make a real difference, not just in my community but in touching individual lives. It’s this heartfelt dedication to impacting others that truly defines my journey in both realms.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend visited Atlanta, I was excited to share the city’s rich Black history with her. We started at The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, where we were deeply moved by the exhibits that connect the American Civil Rights Movement to global human rights struggles. It was an eye-opening experience that set a profound tone for our visit. Next, we explored the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, visiting Dr. King’s birth home and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where he preached. Standing in these spaces where history was made was incredibly powerful. We concluded our tour at the APEX Museum on Auburn Avenue, also known as “Sweet Auburn,” where we delved into the African-American Panoramic Experience. It was not only educational but also a heartwarming exploration of the community’s achievements and challenges. Each of these places brought us closer, enriching our understanding of the city and each other.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Success is truly a collaborative effort, but the most heartfelt thanks for mine goes to my husband. He has been my steadfast partner, not just in our life together but in the nurturing of our three beautiful children. His dedication stretches beyond the everyday support; he’s been my emotional anchor and a relentless cheerleader for every one of my ambitions. Whether managing a hectic family schedule, offering a listening ear after a long day, or celebrating the small victories with me, he has made my journey smoother and more joyful. My success is as much his as it is mine, and I am deeply grateful for his profound and personal commitment to our family’s dreams.
