We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamari Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shamari, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I had to make was leaving an uncomfortable financial space to enter into a unfamiliar space of financial uncertainty.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am one of the co founders of Roux and Robin luxury accessories brand. This brand started due to me doing your management for artist and traveling without a fly carry on. I did not want to spend thousands of dollars for a travel bag but there not many that were affordable under the $500 range. I decided to fill the void and create a big that would have the quality and look of the high end brands but more affordable for the everyday hard worker. Roux and Robin was born with the help of my partners. We took all the money we had to create sample bags and posted them online to get audience feed back. One bag in particular was getting a lot of attention and with that our first product was born. We have experience fast growth through internet sales and pop shops.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the New York area now so I would take them to Caroline’s for comedy show. We would experience a day shopping at the American Dream Mall. We would probably stop to Juniors for some cheesecake or for a Ruben sandwich. We would always attend many of the night lounges in Nyc, too many to name.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout my business partners Carlos Hall and Gemar Mills for always supporting my ideas and adding their ideas to help create something we all wanted to accomplish. I would also like to shout out my parents for instilling Integrity in me. This has helped me create a business of high standards and values to give my customers the ultimate experience.
