We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamara Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shamara, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I’ve been working since the age of 16. If I was to tell you how many jobs I’ve had since then, you might either be shocked or probably think I’ll be lying. I’ve always enjoyed making money. I just knew that making money while I sleep sounds so much better. There have been times when I left one job and went straight to the next, with no break. There has also been a time when I left one job and took a nap in my car, but let’s say that nap went way longer than it should have because I clocked in two hours later. LOL Sincerely, a girl just trying to make it.
Fast forward to now, I’m getting better far as balancing out my job versus my business. Have a set schedule where I make sure I promote my business every day, do inventory, complete orders, and make Tiktok videos because we know, it’s VERY popular right now. Those videos can reach thousands of people. I recently quit my management job OUT THE BLUE, was I thinking about it? NOPE. It’s those moments where I tell myself ” Mara, you want to focus on your business more, but you can’t when holding a higher position in a workplace where I don’t even see myself enjoying it. ” Since then, I have more time available on my hands balancing out the two are becoming a lot easier.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If you think I call myself The Creative Ceo because it sounds good then think again. I’ve always been a creative person. I’ve always been that type of person who thinks outside the box. I like to be different, that’s what set me apart from others. I’m most excited about finding things that I say I want to do and then exceeding it. I can’t lie though, I get bored easily looking at the same things. YouTube is really my best friend. I search a video up, go get the items I need, put my own little twist to it, and then BOOM I used my creative side. I got to where I am today by simply being ME. If you were to see me, the first thing you will notice will probably be loud hair color, because I’m not myself if I don’t have colored hair. Besides the loud hair color, lip gloss and lashes no it was not easy getting to where I am today. I knew in order to be different from others surrounding me, I had to think differently. I had to think of a creative way to run my business and pray that my target audience loves it. Has it worked? Yes, I tell people all the time just be themselves. Don’t compare your business to mine, don’t compare yourself to me. We are two different people, just be you. I want the world to know that it does not matter how many people are doing the same thing as you, they are not you. Everyone has a creative side, find yours and go explore with it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m from Valdosta, Ga. Is there much to do here? Not quite. I’ve grown to love to travel to FL because I’m a person who likes beaches, pretty sky pictures at the beach, and tall trees. Florida is a great place to visit because for one if she’s my best friend she definitely must love to eat lol. Florida is known for their seafood, I love chicken wings (all drums to be exact ) though so we’re just going to say that’s the same thing. If we were to stay in Valdosta, I would suggest going to our bowling alley. Can I bowl? Nope, but that’s why they have a bar and a pool alley in the back just for me, well us. Night-time life is pretty much the same, every week. I’m not a fan of going out to any club where I have to stand up the whole time, so we would definitely be going to a local hookah lounge, ya know?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without hesitation, I’ll definitely have to shout out my grandmother Barabara. My grandma is the sweetest and most caring person. She’s been supporting me from the very beginning since I started my business. I remember when I first started my business, I was making lip gloss right out of her house, having people grab their orders and she just helped me pass them out. When I first started my business I worried myself to death about not having support, not having the ones who I supported to support me back but one thing I love the most about my grandmother is that she’s going to support me if nobody else does. She’s always handing me money out of the blue, she always says ” here just in case you want to grab food or need gas in your car “, but little does she know I spend those same dollars on new inventory, YES it’s a habit now and no I can not help it. I’m so blessed and thankful to for one have my grandmother still alive and for two, have the support from her. She’s always asking me questions about my have I created new lip gloss or how many orders have I did on such and such week. LOL It’s funny coming from her but I definitely love it. So to my grandmother, thank you for believing in me.
