We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakita Spalding and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shakita, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is doing research. Research on how I can improve the products and services I provide. As well as, how to be a better business owner/entrepreneur.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others in the baking industry, is the amount of time I spend doing my research for each and order. I like to find different ways to execute my plan and improve my craft. I never intended to start my own business, but there was a demand for my baked goods. I didn’t know anything about running a business, so at first I didn’t take it seriously. Once I realized that customers enjoyed my bake goods and referred me to family and friends, I knew I had something. Determined not to fail, I started researching what I needed to do to become successful and grow my business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting for a week, I would take them to all seven cities. Each day, I would plan to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at some of the most popular restaurants in each city. In between eating, showing them some of the main attractions that each city has to offer, as well as some historic sites. A week is not enough time to show everything, but it would be catered to my friend’s interests.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send a shotout to all the bakers who have chosen to openly talk about their success and failures. Those who want to see others in their industry succeed and don’t compete. I appreciate your honesty and humbleness.
