We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakeela Shakoor-Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shakeela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up with a family of entrepreneurs. Our first family owned business was Shakoor’s thrift store. I have always wanted to create and build generational wealth. Starting Etherianspace is just the tip of the iceberg into making that come into existence.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well I started EtherianSpace, right in the thick of Covid-19. The challenges in the beginning were definitely not being able to really network like I want because you don’t want to get to close to anybody and that still is kind of what it is like now. Just having to take extra extra precautions because you don’t want anything to happen to your loved ones or even yourself. I have also learned alot about what works for me. I feel when I initially started this business. I gave the customer too much at one time, which in turn made me pour out money into something that had not fully bloomed. So I had to really reevaluate my business and focus on buikding it first then giving my customers more options. Besides building EtherianSpace, I am a stay at home mom and I work customer from home. What sets me apart is that, it’s my company there are alot of t-shirts company’s, but I put so much love in what I do, each shirt is made upon ordering and as a store manager for 5 plus years. I plan to make sure I continue to give my customers great customer service.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start with brunch at either Milk & Honey or Nana’s Chicken and Waffles in Conyers. For dinner we would go to our favorite sushi spot Brush Sushi Izakaya. For drinks we love chilling at the Daquiri Factory at the bar because the bartender do us right everytime. Between relaxing and getting some sun a Piedmont Park to taking beautiful photos at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I would definitely take her to my favorite Jamaican restaurant Mangos, of course and the International House of Roti in Decatur. Can you tell we love to eat? Oh and of course Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar. We would end the week relaxing at Jeju Spa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, firstly it would be my husband who has always believed in me, in everything that I do. The support I get from him is unwavering. The ones that are close to my heart know who they are and know how much I appreciate the support they have given me. I can’t forget the person that gave me that extra boost that get to work. I would definitely like to shoutout Atiyya Nadirah, she is a great entrepreneur, she explains things so easily, it kind of like now why can’t I just do it. So after literally watching one of her YouTube videos, I immediately began working on EtherianSpace LLC my t-shirt business.
