We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaira Lanice Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaira Lanice, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I believe I communicate best when I am creating. Since I was young, I’ve always loved to learn and try new things. Pursing acting and other arts allows me to grow and take risks while applying what I’m passionate about. I act, sing and dance. I took a leap, when I came to Atlanta to further my career and I have gained so much confidence and love for the City.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From a young age I’ve always been passionate about singing. As I got older I fell in love with acting and dance. I Attended Florida A&M University and got my B.A. in Theatre Performance. I would say I got where I was today by not letting one door closing stop me from opening others. The biggest lesson I’ve learned as an artist is that growth is often uncomfortable and hard, but it’s necessary to do something worthwhile. One of my favorite words is Audacity, a willingness to take bold risks. I think success starts with having the audacity to do or be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First we are going to grab some skates from Roll ATL, skate shop in Atlanta. Then head over to the Beltline to skate and check out some dope graffiti and artworks. Another day I would take them to The Slutty Vegan in Edgewood and get a sloppy toppy burger.
End the weekend going out the Joystick Gamebar for some fun and games.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Jessica Raquel. She is an artist. She does amazing spoken work and is also and actress, amongst other things. Outside of her amazing artistry she is also a very kind soul.
