We had the good fortune of connecting with Serrita K and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Serrita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own custom Apparel business birthed during the shutdown of COVID-19. Even though the thought of doing a tshirt business came years prior, just never had a timeline of when because I was still active duty military. It all started when the demand for masks came about. I purchased a few fabric blocks and sewing kit from Walmart, then sat on my living room couch and hand sew masks for my family. After posting on social media, I began to get a flood of request for masks. So I decided to purchase a sewing machine and help out. Throughout the first year over 4000 plus masks has been made. People began to request more advanced customization besides standard fabric designs, so I purchased a Cricut. From there things just escalated to fancy masks and Apparel. Formally I operated alone under Angelface Creations LLC.

I had just retired Dec 2021 from 22 years of Naval service and needed to narrow down what I really wanted to venture into on top of being a Real Estate Agent and if I was going to continue with Angelface Creations.

I had met my business partner Shandra Elam through mutual friends a year prior and she had spoke of starting a custom tshirts business. So as the demand for mask decreased, I needed to make a decision on if I wanted to continue with this as a personal hobby or push it further. So I gave Shandra a call, asked if she ever thought about having a partner, and if she wanted to venture into getting a storefront. She said yes and was excited because she was having the same thoughts as me. So we immediately planned a meeting, threw each other ideas out there, came up with a business name, and everything took off from there. June 2022 we partnered and launched MaXX Capacity Design Studio.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With Serrita K Realty I work as an independent Real Estate Agent under the brokerage Realty One Group Visionaries Augusta Georgia. What I bring to the table of Real Estate is my personal experience and journey of purchasing homes over the past 20+ years. I purchased my first home at the age of 22 and purchased a home at every duty station except for one. I’ve had great and bad experiences with agents and the process. My experiences and love for helping others motivated me to become an agent. On top of wanting the flexibility and freedom of not working corporate. I knew when I retired I wanted something of my own. In the military, my specialty was Information Technology. And I could get out and make really good money but that’s not where my heart and passion was. I wanted to do something that motivated me and I enjoyed to the fullest. Transitioning from the military after 22 years has been a major shift in my life. I always tell people, “it’s like I’ve graduated high school and now trying to figure out who Serrita really is and what she wants to do when she grows up”. The challenges of doing something totally different then what you’ve been doing for the last 20+ years is scary in itself.

I had no clue where real estate or MaXX Capacity Design Studio was taking me. Both were started not to far apart from each other. I looked at real estate as my job and MaXX Capacity as my hobby and therapy.

With both ventures my top priority is my customers and clients. Going above and beyond to ensure total customer satisfaction.

For real estate, I tell my customers that it’s my job to ensure that they’re stress-free and that throughout the process I will be there every step of the way. If you know anything about real estate, transactions can many different ways. People livelihood is dependent on us sometimes. So I’m going to do what I have to do to ensure your family is secure.

With MaXX Capacity, we provide top-notch customer care. We keep open a line of communication, we allow our customers to be closely apart of the creation process, we are flexible for those who need a quick turn around, and we allow no set time for work hours. Whatever needs to happen to get the job done, we’re on it.

With any business there will be challenges. It’s about how we handle those challenges. Every challenge is different and every customer is different, so each is handle appropriately with care. Communication is the most vital aspect when facing challenges. And that is exactly what I do. Face it and work it out by all means necessary.

The world needs to know that no matter how big or small the task is, it’s my priority to figure it out and make it happen. I don’t believe in “I can’t “, I believe there is always a way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends visit me trust and believe food is at the top of the list. We all enjoy a nice, savory meal. The goal is to find a new spots to eat and with downtown Augusta and surrounding areas growing so rapidly, downtown will always be a stop for great food, great drinks, and a great vibe. Downtown Augusta has a plethora of bars, restaurants, live music, museums, history, and art. Augusta also has a beautiful scenery along the Savannah River where we’ll go and rent bikes and take a scroll along the Savannah River, stop along the way to soak in the amazing views, ending the ride with a jump in the fresh river water and sitting under the waterfall.

Favorite food spots:
Sole Augusta
Top Crab
Jackie M & Sons
TBonz
Suite 10
Knuckle Sandwich

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely hands down my greatest support comes from my children. Family and friends have supported my endeavors throughout the military, becoming a Real Estate Agent and starting MaXX Capacity Design Studio. Despite being away at times, long hours working, taking away family time for business, employing them to help with projects, and whatever else may come along, they endured through it all without no complaints. My kids have always encouraged me to keep going even when things got tough. My family has always supported me and showed their gratitude and appreciation throughout all my endeavors.
