We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio DV Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sergio DV, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I began creating the blueprint of my business I thought about the things that mattered most to me. Those things were: Beauty, Style, and Glamour. I wanted to create a product that I could instill those important key elements into and designing Couture was my outlet. I grew up drawing gowns in the back of my notebook during class and always daydreamed about bringing those sketches to life. When I got the opportunity to design a prom gown for my friend in high school, I was instantly gravitated towards the idea of doing this for a living. While attending college I taught myself how to sew and began gaining clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been designing for 9 years and I can honestly say that I am still growing as a designer. There’s always something you can learn and I try to always be openminded. If there is anything that I’ve learned in my journey is to always be resilient. There is always going to be naysayers, negative people around you, and even self doubt that will try to steer you off of your course. I’ve learned that you cannot let that distract you from your goals and what you want out of life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to go to is the High Art Museum for cultured art and sculptures from featured famous artists. I enjoy going to the designer exhibits at the Savannah College For Art Design. I fell in love when they featured Oscar De La Renta’s history of couture gowns on display. My bestfriend and I always go to Lenox or Perimeter mall for shopping. When it comes to cocktails and dinner, The Southern Gentlemen Gastropub has a lovely adult night life upscale scenery. I love their drinks and gourmet chicken & waffles on their menu. Any after hours spot downtown is typically where me and friends would go to after drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to my parents, friends, supporters, and most importantly God above.
