We had the good fortune of connecting with Sequoyah “DataBae” Glenn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sequoyah “DataBae”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to create an agency I wanted to work at. Marketing agency life can be extremely difficult to navigate – there’s lots of personalities, clients, demands, and changes that will drive even the best a little crazy! I created my business to undo the stigma of working at a marketing agency – yes, I kept a little crazy, but added so much more human-centered compassion in an effort to support the whole marketer while getting the work done.
What should our readers know about your business?
924 CoOperative is a data-driven marketing agency specializing in marketing strategy and consumer insights. Our team acts as senior-level consultants to agencies and brands looking to make big decisions, especially ones with cultural implications. Our network is vast, with all contractual employees so we don’t force brands to fit our mold, we challenge ourselves to find the right people, with the right backgrounds, and most importantly – the right attitudes. I’ve learned that disruption is fueled by creativity and that the world won’t be a better place without both of them. So we’re creative and disruptive and we’re here to stay.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Atlanta I’d take them to a rooftop party at The Hyatt Centric on a Wednesday night – totally a vibe. I’d definitely take them to first Fridays at the High and finish up with Rum Punch Brunch on a Sunday.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to THEE Luvvie Ajayi Jones – her book, Professional Troublemaker: The Fear Fighter Manual, was the last thing I read before taking the plunge full time into my business. I’m so thankful for her book – which teaches us to not dwell in not being fearful, but gives us the tools to push past it and ‘fight’. I’m thankful that her book’s information didn’t stop in the written text, but has been extended through interviews, social media, and even other people’s book launches. Luvvie – thank you for ALL you do.
