We had the good fortune of connecting with Semi Beatz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Semi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
No risk, no reward. life is about taking that risk in life and betting on yourself. not all risks are necessary but when the situation feels right and you know how hard you’ve worked to get to this choice, u gotta take that risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It took a long time to get here. I started as a kid who loved basketball more than anything. I would wake up everyday and get up 2-300 shots, write down and track all my makes and misses, plus a notebook full a of different dribbling and drills that i would practice regularly. I believed in my soul i was going to the NBA. Eventually i realized i had started my obsession with basketball a little too late, and I knew I was too far behind to create the future I wanted out of it. But because of my love for basketball and my past of my parents not letting me listen to hip hop music, i had simultaneously become obsessed with hip hop and rap music, it became the only thing i truly wanted to do and when i graduated high school and got my laptop as a gift, it became the only thing i did and replaced my passion for basketball. one day i will play in the celebrity allstar game tho, but since that day i started making beats ive just channeled that same work ethic and belief into my music, and although the road ahead of me is still long, i feel like its been showing. I feel like because of my love for basketball and with all the trials and tests in life, especially at home with my family, i feel like i make the type of music where you can just escape all of your real world problems and turn up, and if u playin on the court listening to my shit, best believe you crossin someone up or u feeling like u can😂. i want the music i make to make you feel like you’re unstoppable, unpredictable, and if u heard a song i produced i want you to know it was me

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
oooo okay good question. im from upstate NY so in that situation im saying we spending a lot of time in Beacon most likely, cause thats the best lil spot to b at up here, in my opinion. main street is boomin on a regular basis, got spots for days on the strip, luxury restaurants, record stores, parks all over the place, the riverfront, DIA which is an art museum, a big mountain to hike up w a crazy view that over looks beacon, a lil bit of night life but nothing crazy like NYC or ATL, but i love it up here, its just a peaceful nice lil city with a big community of closenit people who know eachother and its real love here. if i could live there i would, but i live 40 minutes north of beacon atm but i still make the drive there everyday to make music and spend time w my brothers.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Javan Wallace, Dizzy Banko, and the rest of my team Violation, but also i want to show out my big homie Rich Morris who Javan introduced me to which was really the moment when i started getting in the loop w the people who i call my family today
