We had the good fortune of connecting with Selina Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I use to do nails from home and also make YouTube videos. I took a big break between 2016-2022 from doing nails to take care of my family. My husband suffered a spinal cord injury during this time and my mother also passed away during COVID so I pushed everything aside. Now that we are in a better place I decided to try again and give it all I’ve got. I figured if others can do it, I can too. That’s when I started Selina’s Nail Studio.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always loved nail art since I was a little girl, I would watch nail tutorials and run to buy the supplies I needed. I never imagined that one day I’d be making YouTube tutorials myself. I am proud that I kept trying. And I’m also proud about having views on my YouTube channel. I was rewarded the silver plaque. Now that I have decided to open my salon, the challenges I face are what comes when you first start any business, gaining customers. I want others to know that I love what I do and give my best on every set of nails I create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some places I would take my best friend in the area would be Iron Age steak house. Korean bbq is so good! I think it would be fun to visit the Georgia aquarium as well. And can’t forget to get Starbucks and shop at Target.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband who has faced tremendous adversary and never gave up. He has pushed through physically and mentally to not let his injury stop him from living his life. He also never stopped encouraging me to keep doing nails and follow my dreams. He helped me every step of the way to open my business.

Also, I dedicate my shoutout to my mother who was a fighter in life and always made it happen for me and my siblings as kids. She was a go-getter and the ambition she had to carry us forward will always stick with me.
