We had the good fortune of connecting with Selentia Q. Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selentia Q., what inspires you?
I am inspired by growing up in the inner city with a struggling single-parent mother. She and my teachers were my greatest cheerleaders and inspirations. They empowered me and always made me believe there was so much more in me than I could see at an early age. Confidence and love go hand in hand when supporting a child’s life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a heart for children’s spiritual, emotional, and creative development. My nonprofit youth performing arts training program, Wisdom Arts Inc/The Big Dreams Project, teaches children and youth that there is a process of learning and developing their gifts and talents. The focus is also on values and character building and not just entertainment. Our unique emphasis is preparing young creatives to get ready for the world. To get ready for whatever career path they choose. I also teach theater with the best arts team in Atlanta at Atlanta Smart Academy Performing Arts Middle Charter School.

The Big Dreams Project Performing Arts Training Program is most excited about our training classes in acting, dance, creative movement, vocal music, instrumental music, our films and live, on-stage theatrical productions. Children and youth experience the depth of their gifts and talents. They get the satisfaction of inspiring their audiences through the power of theater. Our technical training affords them this opportunity.

I persevered because I could see that my environment, as a child, was not designed to move me forward in a positive direction. I moved forward with the encouragement of teachers and mentors who saw my acknowledged my gifts and talents. They had a passion for children and passed it on to me. Overcoming my challenges was a hard push. Many things around me, where I grew up said, “No do not grow! Stay right where you are!” I did not listen. I pushed. I overcame many challenges by staying focused and choosing my crowds and supporters wisely. And when I make mistakes, I correct them and move on.

I’ve learned that everyone does not have a passion, for children as I do. I’ve learned that finding your tribe is so important and standing strong on your vision and God-given direction is even more important. My brand is a legacy divinely designed to touch lives through the arts in ways I may not even fully ever know. As a teacher, director mentor, and friend, my mandate is to make a difference in the lives I am honored to serve. When you pour into the lives of children, you are definitely “planting seeds” that are deeply rooted in the soil of time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I acknowledge my belief in the plans God had for my life. I have also learned so much about unconditional love and giving to others through being a wife, and a mother of 5. The mentorship of women and men older than myself has contributed greatly to my maturity and success.
