Meet Selena Miller aka MeMoonlight The Loc Whisperer | Loc Scholar and Master Loctician/Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Selena Miller aka MeMoonlight The Loc Whisperer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selena Miller aka, what do you attribute your success to?
Passion and knowledge are the most important factors behind the success of Loc Art. I am MeMoonlight The Loc Whisperer. I established Loc Art in 2011 with the visional goal to bring the Science of Locs to the mainstream. Improper Loc maintenance is a little known endemic which gave life to the movement. Loc Science teaches how and why understanding our individuality is so important. Information lead with determination drives the purpose of Loc Art and has been key to my achievements combined with endless faith. MeMoonlight means “A light in the midst of darkness” and embodies everything this journey represents.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets Loc Art apart is the ability to exhibit the beauty of where science and art meet. I am the most proud of my Loc Science book and course because it provides needed information that encourages a healthy loc journey.
I can’t express enough the importance of passion and faith on my journey to success.
Was it easy? This definitely was not an easy journey, but I had the determination to execute the vision. There were times I was unsure I would make the right decisions…and sometimes I didn’t. I can say all these lessons have brought me to my current understanding that having the right people in the right places is one of the most important decisions you have to make. The placement of people in the proper position is fundamental for the success of any business to thrive. The people you choose to represent you can make or break your brand. This was a hard lesson for me but it helped me overcome many challenges.
I want the world to know that Loc Art started with my desire to expose the world to the beauty of locs. I have always been a promoter of self love, on a poetry platform. But my Creator had other plans that were beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I was maintaining locs when I realized the amount of damage being done to the loc community. I did not know why this was happening so I started my research on loc anatomy. My desire to expose the beauty of locs evolved into a desire to learn more about loc health and share that knowledge with others. This is how the Ten Loc Commandments were born and the Loc Art Movement began to bring proper Loc Science to those who maintain and wear locs. I truly feel blessed as I truly embrace and respect every aspect of this journey!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely have them experience Black Wall Street, Jeju Sauna, The Beltline and Little 5 Points. I would recommend them to try a wrap at Tassilis Raw Reality; order Ubereats Coastal Flavors; have some Brussel sprouts at Slush and vegan curry at Apt 4B.
Then we would check out Oak Street Eats, Suite Lounge, Le Nouveau Marquis, Slutty Vegan, Sweet Potato Cafe, Ms. Icey’s Kitchen and bar, Breakfast at Barneys, Spice House and Herban Reality.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to say I give the most credit to my ancestors because without them, nothing would be possible. I believe we take for granted the daily homage we should respectfully give for their struggles, passion, determination and desires. As I become aware and gain more understanding of the importance of this principle; I encourage everyone to tap in.
