Meet Sean “Sdot” Mascoll | Music Program Director – SiriusXM

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean “Sdot” Mascoll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean “Sdot”, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I come from a rich cultural and spiritual background that has played a major role in shaping the person I am today. My family is originally from Barbados, W.I., and I grew up in Brooklyn, NY—two environments that instilled in me a deep appreciation for both my Caribbean roots and the hustle and resilience that come with being raised in New York City. I attended Nazareth Regional High School before continuing my education at Penn State University, and through it all, my upbringing remained deeply rooted in faith.
My father was a reverend, and from an early age, my parents taught me to put God first in everything I do. Being raised in the church gave me a strong moral foundation and instilled values like integrity, discipline, and perseverance. It also taught me the importance of community, service, and staying grounded, no matter where life takes me.
Like anyone, I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs, trials, and tribulations. Through every challenge, my faith has remained my anchor. It’s what has kept me focused and determined in an industry that demands both patience and persistence. Brooklyn gave me my edge, Penn State expanded my perspective, and my faith has been my guide through it all—helping me navigate life, my career, and the purpose I continue to walk in today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Program Director at SiriusXM, where I oversee and contribute to four dynamic channels dedicated to Hip-Hop, R&B, and Reggae music. Entertainment has always been my passion, and having the opportunity to shape the sound and direction of these genres on a national platform is something I take great pride in. My journey at SiriusXM spans 15 years, but before that, I worked at some amazing radio stations like Hot 97.1, CD 101.9 Smooth Jazz, and 98.7 Kiss FM. What sets me apart is my deep understanding of both the culture and the evolving landscape of music. I’ve worked hard to curate authentic content that resonates with listeners, giving both legendary artists and emerging talent a space to shine. The road to success hasn’t always been easy. The industry is fast-paced and constantly changing, requiring me to adapt, innovate, and stay ahead of trends. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that relationships and consistency are everything – building trust with artists, audiences, and colleagues has been key to my growth. More than anything, I want people to know that my work is driven by a genuine love for music and culture. My goal is to continue elevating voices in Hip-Hop, R&B, and Reggae, ensuring these genres get the recognition and respect they deserve. I’m also passionate about mentoring the next generation of radio and entertainment professionals, helping those who aspire to break into the industry, navigate their paths, and develop their craft. Seeing others succeed and contribute to the culture in meaningful ways is just as rewarding as the work itself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If you have a best friend visiting town, what are some spots you would take them to?
My best friend is my girlfriend, and funny enough, she’s actually not a native New Yorker. She’s from Virginia, so I’ve had the opportunity to create several itineraries to get her up to speed with my city. We’d start the morning off with coffee and breakfast/brunch, followed by a stroll through the city to shop or a fun activity. For lunch, we’d definitely grab pizza or burgers. For a true New York experience, we’d catch a show on Broadway, then grab a nice dinner at a nice steakhouse or Italian restaurant. During her visit, we’d also dive deeper into the music scene, from checking out spots in Brooklyn to catching live performances at places like the Apollo, MSG, and other NYC venues. I’d introduce her to more of the history and culture that make NYC the place to be. NYC is nonstop, but that’s what makes it special. You can go from a hole-in-the-wall spot with the best food you’ve ever had to a major event with industry legends—all in the same night. Honestly, no matter how many times she’s visited, I think we’ll always find new corners of the city to explore together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to everyone who counted me out before counting me in—you played a key role in my success story. Every doubt, every underestimation, and every closed door only fueled my determination to push harder, stay consistent, and prove myself.
But beyond that, I want to shout out my family and friends, my mentors, and my team—everyone who has ever supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Success isn’t just about talent; it’s about the people who pour into you along the way. So, to those who stood by me, gave me wisdom, and pushed me to be my best, I’m blessed to have you. And to those still doubting—I love y’all too, because you keep me motivated.
