We had the good fortune of connecting with Seairra Irving and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seairra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business has always been about uplifting others and living my purpose by utilizing my gifts. Considering I’ve had alopecia since the age of 7 and struggled with confidence and self-acceptance, I poured my heart into my gifts and creativity. I realized that by doing hair, I can brighten up someone’s day. With modeling, I can inspire someone to see that they can turn pain into joy by doing what they love. No matter what, my business is here to show that you can live your dreams no matter the circumstances. God has worked it out for the greater good. Just start.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hair Mystiques is my business, and it is my baby. As I develop and progress, so does my business. I’ve learned that it’s not easy, but what’s meant for you will be for you, it’s inevitable. I’ve learned to surround yourself with a supportive group. They will keep your mindset in the right place and be honest with you . Even when you do t want to hear it . I do what I do because God blessed me with a gift and a love for it. Doing hair is a part of me. I have gotten to where I am because I know my purpose and that keeps me going. Every time I touch someone’s head, I feel like I am serving God by spreading His love. I’ve learned to keep going no matter what, to learn from the lessons, apply them, and do things differently. I’ve also learned to continue to be true to who I am and stay unique. I want the world to know that it gets better as long as you don’t quit on yourself. Don’t ignore your gifts and, recently, don’t overthink it – just do it. You have everything you need to get started, so just start. As for modeling, it’s the same thing. I know I’ve been chosen with this condition to inspire others to understand that it’s okay. I model to show that bald is beautiful, and if I can find the confidence, so can you. Representation is everything. I am blessed to be a part of something so beautiful and to spread my story and testimony to help someone else.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love food, and so does my best friend. One of my favorite spots to eat is No Mas restaurant, where the food and drinks are amazing. I also love the High Museum! There’s always a unique exhibit there. I’m pretty chill. I love walks in Piedmont Park – it’s the perfect place to vibe out and get some sun. .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank God for always being with me and guiding me, for being there when I felt like I had no one. I’ve been blessed with life, opportunities, and these wonderful gifts to share His love and grace. I also want to extend my gratitude to my mother, Chassity Irving, and my father, Barry Irving, for loving me and teaching me to always be strong and stand up for myself. To my brothers, Doriuan Irving, Barry Irving, Isaiah Irving, and Christian Irving, thank you for always having my back, encouraging me, and checking on me. To my partner, Maurice Washington, thank you for supporting me and loving me for who I am. Each of you has played a major, special role in my life individually, yet together.
