We had the good fortune of connecting with Schylr Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Schylr, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a service provider in the beauty industry , I am surrounded around women of different backgrounds. Being a makeup artist allows me to connect with each and every one of my clients on an intimate level of understanding how it’s like being a woman in today’s society. Everyone wants to feel beautiful in their own skin, wants to enjoy a weekend out after working 40+ hours a week, wants to be able to unwind and feel that boost of confidence after leaving my chair. My goal is to make sure all of my clients, new and returning, have a unforgettable makeup experience when booking an appointment with me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a makeup artist, I like to challenge myself by being versatile in my craft. I have a variety of looks I can do that range from natural and soft to bold and colorful. I prefer to not limit myself to one certain look. That brings me to my most recent accomplishments. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and took a microshading class. Microshading also known as “ombré powder brows” is the art of semi permanent tattooed eyebrows. Stepping out into the cosmetic tattooing field was a challenge but as mentioned before, I enjoy taking on new challenges. Along the way of being an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that bonds and relationships are everything. In this industry it’s very beneficial to have connections to people of different backgrounds and skills. You never know what you can learn from the next person.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend was visiting, Texas Roadhouse is an absolute MUST! Best rolls in the city. I’m huge on Starbucks, so we’d definitely spend some time there to catch up and try some new drinks. A fun place to enjoy some drinks, great food, and games would probably be at Main Event or Dave & Busters.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my journey of becoming a makeup artist, my family, most importantly my mom has played a huge part as to where I am today. When starting out, I transformed our dining room into a makeup room. Vanity lights and all. Through the early morning appointments, last minute cancellations, she supported me through it all. From wise words of encouragement, greeting my clients, cleaning makeup brushes for me, my mom has always been my number one fan.

I would like to shoutout three of my closest friends that were my first makeup models ever, Ariana Culton, Aliyah Mitchell, and Jasmine Bibby. To this very day they continue to support me through every new business endeavor.

Lastly I’d like to shed light on my mentor, Ms Courtney Lauren. I met her as a student, after flying to Atlanta to take her Microshading/Brow Tint Combo class and she’s given me so much guidance ever since. She pushes me to my fullest potential and is always there with the best words of advice. She’s the absolute best!
