We had the good fortune of connecting with Schāf Sisters, Loren & LindzeySchaffer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Schāf, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My sister, Lindzey & I wanted to start a clothing line since before we can remember. When she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer she came to me and said, “We need to do this before it’s too late.” That sounds morbid. But it’s so eye-opening. None of us know how much time we have here. Why wait until you’re diagnosed with a “terminal illness” to finally follow a dream? We immediately took action. It’s been the time of our lives and we’re closer than ever.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Loren: “My entire life I wanted to be a professional singer and of course I was constantly told how unrealistic that dream was. I’m so thankful that I overcame every obstacle and naysayer. Today, I perform full-time and I have to pinch myself!”
Loren toured in the number one event band in the country, Party On The Moon, for four years. She can now can be seen singing at The Garden Room in Atlanta and several other ATL hot spots.
“I’m currently recording an album of my own with six time-Grammy Award winning producer, Damon Thomas, for release in 2021. I’m honored to be working with a true musical genius. And finally, launching an apparel line with my sister, I’m realizing ALL of my dreams are possible everyday.”
Lindzey started skateboarding around the age of 8 and was quickly noticed as the “baddest chick at the skatepark”. She started receiving sponsorships and winning competitions. She instantly fell in love with skate and streetwear culture. As a girl in a male dominated skate scene, she had trouble finding clothes she liked. The boy’s section of skate shops was appealing but felt like a party she wasn’t invited to. She dreamed of starting a clothing line with no gender. For everyone. As a teen she was making skateboards and t-shirts and selling them out of the trunk of her car! After being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, she took immediate action. Schāf was born. Streetwear for everyone.
“Don’t waste time not being you because you don’t know how much time you have.” -Lindzey
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our ideal weekend in Atlanta would start at The Garden Room in Buckhead Friday night!! Not only is the atmosphere stunning and food amazing, but Loren performs there, serenading tables, creating an immaculate vibe!
Saturdays we can be found picnicking in Piedmont park or scootering the belt line with our nephews! We love eating at Ponce City Market & Zocalo! We’re also no strangers to the midtown LGBTQ nightlife scene! We love Ten, Blakes, MSR, Midtown Moon & Mary’s.
We also love salsa dancing with our mom at Loca Luna!!
Sunday you can find us grilling out my the pool at Lindzey’s midtown apartment!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to recognize our friends, family, TikTok followers worldwide and the LGBTQ community of Atlanta! We wouldn’t be here without the love and influence of our people and our city!
